S & W 22 Compact Assembly

I purchased a new M&P .22 compact. After reading carefully, the S&W Safety & Instruction manual and after watching their videos for dissembley, cleaning and re-assembly, I cannot get the take down lever to raise from a vertical position to the horizontal position.

It seems as if the Gun Rod Assembly interferer's with reassembly.

Any ideas on how to put this fine firearm back together would be appreciated and would be gratefully appreciated.

The return spring assembly only goes in one way. If you put it in rotated 180 degrees it's backwards and the gun will not go together. Once the RSA is put in the right way the slide should go all the way back to catch the slide lock. From there you should be able to rotate the disassembly lever all the way up into the locked position and release the slide.

Yea, the return spring has a 45* angled seat on the end of it and that mates up in its spot under the barrel. If you have it turned over 180* it wont recess properly. (@ballistic)

The guys above are right. Your recoil spring assembly is likely upside-down.
