Howdy and happy New Year

I have a 625-2 with 5" bbl. I am amazed at the level of accuracy this revolver is capable of producing.

To answer your question mine shoots 230 ball about as well as anything except 200 grain semi-wadcutters, hand loaded with about 5 to 5.5 grains of Win. 231.

I have 2 to 3 hundred 45 auto rim cases and a large amount of acp. I can't tell any difference in accuracy between the two.

I finally bought the proper tools for de-mooning the acp cases so now I'd just as soon shoot them. There are many excellant suggestions on this forum for making the tools from every day , common items. I just didn't see them in time so I bought mine.

A great revolver and very accurate to boot.

Some, but not all, 25s have had an issue with oversize cylinder throats which makes handloading mandatory. I have a 625-4 /5" bbl. that is scary accurate (along with a BarSto bbl.'d 9mm Springfield 1911 and a mdl. 14). With the full-length underlug bbl., it also has minimal recoil. It's a keeper.

Here is an observation. S&W 45 cal revolvers are generally far more accurate than their owners can shoot. Unlike a semi-auto where there is a floating disconnection between the barrel and the sights, a revolver shoots where the front sight is aimed, every time. The accuracy comes from the actions you the shooter perform before, during and after the trigger pull.

I have a 625 with a 3" barrel and it is very very accurate. i changed the sights to night sights and use it as my back-up gun on duty..I carry an extra moon clip in my pocket...Love it...and +1 on what Scott625b and big50 wrote...

625 gets my vote...model of 1989 if you can find one.

There's not a whole lot of ways to hurt yourself with an N frame .45, but to my mind it's all about the LC. Heavier boolits, no clips.

Folks with Acp swear by them, but I like the bigger case with a rim.

Blue or SS is a call you have to make.

I respectfully disagree sir. The cylinder wall thickness on a 25/625 is such that you can never load the 45LC to its true potential... without risking damage to the gun. The 45 acp version can be loaded with heavier bullets....but the cheapest pistol ammo today is the 45 auto fmj...allowing for lots of practice in the 625.

For the heavy work in a N frame, I prefer to use the 29/629.

I like, and own, both. I carry the .45 Colt though.
