I have the opportunity to buy a scandium model 360J chambered in .38 special. A friend of mine, the original owner, says he has fired less than 100 rounds through it. Looks like new, box and papers. Wants me to make an offer. I've looked for recent sales and they seem to range from $350-500. The serial number is CXY97XX. He thought he bought it through Talo Distributors but doesn't remember for sure.

Any ideas on value and what I should offer?

I paid around 329.00 plus shipping for mine when they hit the market in large quantities a year or two ago.

It is a neat J frame. I put an XS standard dot sight on mine and had the cylinder converted to 9mm.

Not sure I would go much over 350.00 to 400.00 for it myself and you won't have the transfer fee or any other cost here in Kansas.

360J - 357 Mag

If you're going to pay more than that you might as well just get the recently released 2-Tone .357 magnun version of the 360J instead.

I paid 369.00 at Xmas for mine and it was on sale. they were 449.00 regular price so you know. great gun and unique as well... Good luck..

Thanks for the replies. He called me this morning and offered it to me for $300 so I'm going to get it.

326MOD10, thanks for the link to the XS Sight.

Yep, we still have sensible gun laws in Kansas; FTF private sales!

As long as there isn't anything wrong with it - that's a good deal! Not to be Mr. Naysayer - but check the B/C gap and face of the cylinder. Mine had the so-called wire edge on the forcing cone - and that caused clearly visible scratches on the face of the cylinder. I didn't have the insight to check for it before I bought it. It's an easy fix for a gunsmith with a forcing cone reamer. I decided to wait to accumulate the $90 to get a Brownell's starter kit to fix mine myself. That said, I do not regret the purchase at all - they're hard to come by in .38 and reasonable...

At $300 your getting a good deal. Got a few bucks left for a range trip :)

+1 on a good deal... i'm the owner of a 360 PD, and a regular 360. got the PD for 600 almost new, and my 360 for 325. so score one for you!

Thanks, I shot it this morning. A little "snappy" but not too bad. I am thinking about replacing the factory (Uncle Mikes?) grips with a set of Pachmayr Compac Pro's.

I do really like it though. And it's not painfull or difficult to shoot like some have said.

Thanks for all of the replies!
