S&W 38 cartages

Hello everyone,just stumbled across this site.I just acquired a 38 U.S. 38 revolver,having trouble finding 38 cartage's to shoot.Hopefully someone here can direct me where to find some..thank you ,have a Merry Christmas

Welcome! You are probably looking for .38 S & W (not Special) rounds. Your local gun shop can probably order them, or try one of the larger online sites (Brownell's, Midway USA). If you have any doubt about the gun's condition please have it checked before firing it. Hope this is helpful.

All ammo is gonna be hard to find in the coming days. .38 S&W falls into the semi-obsolete catagory. When ya do find it , it's very expensive. New stuff is from $35 and up a box of 50. Ya might get lucky and find some older stuff at gunshow. I recently found an old cigar box full of .32 and .38 S&W for $5 at a flea market , and I don't even own a revolver in those calibers.

Does your revolver have one of these (or something similar) stamped on the left side of the barrel:

38 S. & W. CTG - this is the 38 Smith & Wesson, as referred to in the other posts. Not interchangeable with the 38 Special.

38 S. & W. SPECIAL CTG - as you might guess, this is the 38 Smith & Wesson Special, or simply 38 Special.

38 S. & W. SPECIAL & U.S. SERVICE CTG'S - usually marked in two lines. The first part still refers to the 38 Smith & Wesson Special, while "U.S. Service Ctg" refers to the 38 Long Colt (which was used by the U.S. military from 1892 until 1911).
