Gentlemen,

A friend of mine has NIB example of this gun. The box is showing some wear, but the gun hasn't been fired since it left the factory. He is wanting to sell it to a S&W guy. I think that he wants about $1800 for it.

Shoot me a PM if interested and I can connect you with the seller.

Here is a pic or two that he sent to me.

Not a frequently encountered 3rd gen.

Not rare, but not many were produced.

I think I paid around $800 for mine.

That pistol is in great shape.

There was one at the Raleigh show about a year and a half ago. Guy was in a remote corner amongst the knives and jerky. Had a FS one, ASNIB asking 1100.
I thought he was nuts.

If his original box was in high condition (the pistol KIND OF appears to be, meaning we would need a lot more pictures, more angles and in better light to really know) then it would be possible, on Gunbroker, if the correct two deep-pocketed goofs decided to go to war, for this pistol to sell at $1,800.

Out in the real world, that is extremely beyond high market. As always, absolutely anything is possible and it isn't my intention (whatsoever!) to be rude, but $1,800 isn't realistic in the real-world market. Furthermore, this would be more attractive to the lion's share of buyers with the Novak fixed rear sight. If being offered on the 'net, pictures of the box end label and the goodies that shipped with it are needed. (cleaning rod, brush, mop, SAT, manual)

I would also say that since it is wearing the curved grip and also showing the straight grip is a detail that suggests "never been fired outside the factory" may be an opinion and not necessarily based in fact. This an NOT an accusation nor indictment, but "never been fired outside the factory" is a line used a whole lot in our hobby and I would love to know the rate of real world truth across the board.

I don't know everything, I've been proven wrong before and I will again, but that's what I can say about this. This is an interesting discussion to me because it is wholly prohibited to make any comments on a genuine "for sale" ad in our forum, and for good reason. But this was posted not in the classifieds, but in the discussion area.

If he sent that to the right seller on Gunbroker, he would get that money, maybe a bit more or less give or take.

It is a scarce gun, and there will always be a market for a quality gun that was built in low supply.

I agree with Sevens on this. At the same time, SAFireman posted this as a favor to his friend, in case any S&W guys wanted to know that this gun is for sale. Good on him for trying to help out, and since he didn't ask what we thought of the price, maybe any discussion of it wasn't really invited. Still, and perhaps as guidance for his friend in the long run, taking the thread into the realm of the pistol's value isn't a bad thing.

Perhaps his friend doesn't really want to let this beautiful pistol go. Can't say I would blame him. As a collectible, there are factors that definitely affect it negatively. These might as well be made known to him, if they aren't already.

He is probably going to list it on Gunbroker. The last one in similar condition brought a bit over $2500. I know that it is more hassle to list it on an auction site, and he is getting older and has less patience than he used to. He isn't worried about the $$, he wanted to let the S&W guys have first crack at it.

This is just a favor to help him out, if you want to make an offer, I will put you in touch with him, if not, it will show up for auction.

No worries :D

I think he is VERY well advised to put it on Gunbroker. There is a tremendous market of potential buyers there and it is in my opinion, the very best place to shop for somewhat obscure modern guns.

Even better? If he had a 5905 to offer too! 5905's seem to be every bit as scarce and perhaps more so. I see 4505's every so often, it is extremely rare that I ever see a 5905.

I don't remember that, and I call myself a follower of most all of the 45ACP Third Gen guns on the big site. I'll watch with great interest his auction of this one, if he decides to list it.

You're a good friend, SAFireman. I hope I have someone like you in my corner if I ever decide to let go of some of my treasured pistols after old age has rendered me less able to properly care for and appreciate them.
