I’m not just a revolver guy, I’ve also got a 5946 with a serial number VYZ92xx, which is a pretty frequent carry and nightstand/range gun. Truth be told, I like it more than my M9. It’s a bit of a beast to carry did to weight, but it does fit in the same m9 holster from 1791 Gunleather for the time being and I’m looking for a 5900-series IWB holster for it too. Have a Cobra Gunskin one but it sucks.

I was wondering when it was from. This came from AIM surplus a few years ago.

It’s solid and reliable as all heck. I actually preferred it to the 5906, which is why I still have it and the 5906 went on the trail (in hindsight, should have sold the beretta instead). I find myself really liking DAO and SA, but not as much love for DA/SA. Live and learn I guess. As far as 9mm, this thing is rock-steady reliable. Hits to POA with 115 and 124 gr, never jams. Takedown kind of sucks though in comparison to the Beretta or my Sig, on par with the 1911.

As far as my 9mm carry, this is **somewhat** more likely to go out than the M9 based on length. I foolishly sold my Shield 2.0 to fund sillier things years ago, but I’m a bit of a wuss- the full-size frame soaks up recoil better than the Shield did and I dig the sights and solid steel feel of the 5946 more than the iffy plastic. I normally carry a .38, but 15+1 of 9mm is a very convenient and comfortable carry.

Sometimes I think I might be a 1990s cop lol.

My 5906 VYZ28xx dates to 8/1996 per SW. But your best bet is to ask SW as some s/n prefixes spam multiple years.
