I bought this today as I want the 639 and 439 to go with my 539 that has no box or paperwork.

this 639 has all the paperwork and the correct box but I had to give $600. for it.

My experience with old cars is that you do not pay too much for them - you just buy them too soon. This pistol has very low round count -<100

Did I pay too much? I would have liked to get it for around $500> as the sight is not the early one

If you start second guessing yourself now if you paid too much ,you are taking away all the fun of buying a new old gun....I think you did well....enjoy it;)

I, too would have jumped on that one. If you want a gun, it is worth exactly what you pay for it. The difference of a hundred dollars or so, will fade away as you keep feeding it the ammunition it needs to be happy.

Enjoy it.

If you paid too much then so did I.
I'm happy I got one.

Paid $650 for my 639 that was nib. I think you did great. All stainless 9 mm made by S&W, how can you go wrong? Thanks for the info and pics. Best of luck.

The time to buy a gun that you want is when it's in front of you. You'd spend a lot more time kicking yourself for not buying it than you will for paying a bit more than you wanted to.

Enjoy the gun.

Gun owners truth.

I once wouldn't kick in an extra $25 for a .22 Diamondback at a gun show. I offered $450. He wouldn't budge off of $475. That $25 is still laying around here somewhere, or I used it to buy groceries. That Colt would look sweeter at the range than the long-gone cereal I bought with it.

Enjoy your new gun. I'm sure it's siblings are thrilled!

Especially if it's a nice condition one (of whatever) that they're not making more of.

You can generally find more money. But good condition out-of-production guns are not something you can always find.... :D

Thanks for all the encouragement. I was at the range with it and it is a good shooter. I just have Winchester 'White Box' ammo but it performed flawlessly.

I was 'second guessing' myself as the Blue Book value is quite low considering what they go for on Gunbroker and other venues. There seems to be a disconnect between the 'book' value and reality or the book has not caught up with the market.

In any event I like steel firearms rather than polymer.

Most gun value publications are good for research and to find out where a certain gun fits into the overall value vs. other guns but the actual price you may have to pay is tough to nail down. It would be like trying to publish stock prices...outdated by the time the ink dries!

IMHO you did just fine. Enjoy and don't worry about it.:)

Yaa....go buy one on gunbroker...bidding wars, shipping fees, local gun shop tranfer....you never know what you're gonna pay.

Yup, $500 would have been a better price, $600 for a like new gun is still a good price IMO.

I've been looking for a 539 to go along with my pre-39, nickel -2, & 639.....but I can't find a 95%+ for under $700... do I pay that?
