S&W 683-3 2 inch

Hi guys
I am familiar with the 686 2 inch. But have come across a 683-3 in stainless in 2 inch. Looks exactly like the 686 2 inch.

Can anyone shed light on the difference between a 683-3 and the 686 for me perhaps. Info is limited and I can not find any info. Any help would be appreciated.

I have not heard of a 683. Are you sure it's not a 638?

S&W didn't make a 683. Sometimes the stamps are poorly stuck and difficult to read. Mis-stamped guns are also well documented.

If it looks exactly like a 686-3, that's what it is. I'll also add that the shortest barrels offered on the Distinguished Combat Magnum's were 2-1/2".
