I went downt to the local gun shop, and the guys said they had picked up a S&W in trade. As they know thats what i like to see and were my money normaly goes. It is a S&W 6904 in really great shape, just a little holster wear at the end of the slide about 2mm x 4mm on both sides, super clean other than that. Well it came home with me for 296.00 OTD w/ two mags, and im very pleased with it, action is very smooth for a mainline production gun. Was wondering if you "experts" can key me into the background on this gun. Years of production? Production totals? ext... I think i did pretty good in any circle. Will try to get some pic's up for you guys later tonight.

Post the serial number (or the first three letters) and we can get you the year it was mfg.The 3rd generation started in 1988 and I think some models were still shown in the 2005 catalog. You got a good deal on that one!

Here you go guys just need to pick up a couple more 12rd mags and it will be good little bedroom pistol. Its a square T-guard.

Ship date looks like 1989 per the SCS&W 3rd Ed. I'd be interested to hear your impressions after shooting that gun - especially in comparison to any other S&W 3rd gen autos - if you have any.

Thanks for the post - and enjoy!

Im excited to see how it compares as well. I have a 5904, 4006 and a 559 in nickel. Thanks for the info. Would that make it made in the first year for 3rd gen guns?
