Hey Guys,
Just posting up some pics of a Model 916A, 20 gauge that an acquaintance of mine brought to me for some TLC.
Been sitting in a scabbard for the better part of a quarter century.
Has some scuffs and scratches, but all in all a pretty decent piece.
Best information I have been able to gather is that this model was made originally between 1972 through 1978...
According to another post right here in the forum by another member, it was the first type of this slide action produced by S&W shortly after acquiring the Noble Co.
I have seen values stated throughout the internet ranging from a low of about 65.00 to as high as 400.00
I also found a statement that said something to the effect that they were purchased a lot by police agencies and that they weren't very long lived due to "breakage".
I have not been able to confirm the previous statement or found any evidence of what type of "breakage" they were prone to.
If anyone has any further information, or any corrections to the above...it would be most appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by and best regards...
GT

There is extensive information on the Model 916 in the Forum archives that can be researched. When S&W bought the tooling and parts for the gun from Noble, the eary guns were assembled from Noble parts and called the S&W "Eastfield." They were very inexpensive in regards to other 12 ga. pump shotguns, so low budget law enforcement dep'ts often ordered them, usually in the short barreled version. There was a high rate of failure experienced, due to broken parts, etc., by the buyers, probably due to poor quality control by Noble and rough use. Production of the gun was set up at S&W, with better materials & quality control and renamed the Model 916 and 916A, and many of these guns are still in service with hunters today and have no problems. Ed.

Thank you very much, "opoefc"
That is some great information and I will be passing it on to the owner.
I have a question, and please, forgive my ignorance...I have tried a search for the "Forum archives" you mentioned and could not find them...Could you provide a link that will take me there?
I found a small calendar labeled "Archive" in the lower left of a page in the "Expert Commentary" Forum, but could not access it...
The only information I have been able to acquire is that which is listed here, in the S & W Long Guns Forum...and the usual Google Search either has some vague entries by others or lead right back here to the S & W Forum...

Thanks again,
Gus
