I have a model 19 S&W .357 and I was told on the customer service line not to use +P ammo in it. The CUP difference between +P and .357 is 15,000 psi. What gives?
Yes, I called S&W on the phone, they gave me the date of manufacture and then said that .357 is fine but to not shoot +P out of any gun that is not marked +P.
There are a few possibilities as to why the CS person answered the way he did.
1. He might have thought there is .357 + P.
2. Your model 19 is not stamped + P, and the stock answer is to only use the ammunition for which the gun is stamped. Lawyers run amok .
3. He may have really thought .38 + P operates at higher pressure than .357, as mentioned above.
I have Combat 19/357 ( see pic)
along with XL Hunter 357.
The 19 dates 1974. I have been using +P's
on and off since they are on the market.
Also, some hot 357's when reloading years ago.
Never had a problem. The gun is tight.
No ware anywhere.
But if S/W is saying N/G on +P's, I would go with them.
Did they give a name of ammo?
Just 'do not use +P's?
But standard 357 is ok?
Kind of confusing.
