I have a S&W Model 40 Centennial .38 Spl and was wanting to know the shipping date. S/N : 2842.

Does it have an upper sideplate screw? This would narrow it to before 1955. These were pretty slow sellers at the time and it may not have shipped until after this date, however.

I Think my Pre 40 shipped in late 53-early 54, so yours should be about the same time. Nice guns! Real cool if it has the original red box.

That's a low number. Is it actually stamped Model 40 or are you just calling it that? If model marked it came after 1957.

My Centennial Airweight with the lock screw is #3651. It didn't ship until early 1954.

The Centennial Airweight and the Centennial shared a common serial number range.
