S&W Model 41

No, you don't have to tiptoe around, you don't have to have my permission to look for information I am not very curious about.

I am sorry to hear of your difficulties with government clerks.

Since you live in Canada, something I WOULD be curious about is the route a M41 outfit took across the border. A factory or SCSA letter showing who it went to there would be interesting.

41

Hello Jim,
I purchased my M41 from owner of a gun shop in the city of Red Deer , Alberta. He had it for many years. I have no documentation on the gun but here are a few pictures.
Cheers,
Walter

From the look of the grips its an older model but in very nice shape.

I also just bought another 41. Don't remember the exact serial off hand but 5 digits. Unfortunately it doesn't have the original S&W stocks..but it is a 7 3/8 inch compensator bbl. . Finish needs a bit of cleanup but the price was right and the deal was real. Just a bit under 600 dollars with the box and one magazine. Last weekend I bought a batch of magazines fron a fellow for 45 dollars. 3 were for the 41 with the steel follower. Got 2 Rem 788 mags one 6mm the other is 44 mag and two other 22 target mags that I am not sure what they fitbut think they are earlier Brownings. I think I did good on them...but the gun was a steal in my opinion. Serial is in the 373XX range. I'll post picks when I get it from my receiving dealer. The store had 2 others priced the same both 5 inch?? ones one was an A prefix. I've had many target 22s over the years but the 41s were always my best shooters. Wish I still had my old first 46 but unfortunately...I was talked out of it when I needed something else

The Mod 41 is one of those pistols that just about anyone who picks one up becomes a good shot!

I had not fired mine in years until last week, 100rds @ 25yds.

Enjoy yours.

I just picked up a 5.5" M41 made in 1980.

The gun was shooting way high at 25-yards, and when I adjusted the sight, the elevation screw popped out. Am guessing the nut the screw screws into is stripped, so I need a replacement. Does anyone know who might make or sell the nut? Brownell's and Numrich are No Joy.

Kevin Rohrer Welcome to the Forum. Look for a private message on the parts you need. Do you have the spring that goes under the rear sight as well?

I am missing the tiny plunger that goes in the tiny spring that sets beneath the elevation screw, but I have one coming. I believe that is the only part I am missing.

So far, the person I was provided information on has not contacted me.

Can anyone confirm that the elevation screw screws into a threaded nut (part-48 or 49, depending on the schematic) that sets in the bottom of the sight, and that nut will fall out of the bottom if the elevation screw is not screwed into it and I remove the sight from the slide?

This is the way the schematic looks to me, which means I would have to replace that tiny nut.

An alternative may be to goto Ebay and purchase a replacement sight from Kensight, which look like Bomar clones. I don't know if the dovetail is the same size, though.

Well I got the 41 from Cabela's...finally. Slow shipping for certain. UPS second day air to ship 75 miles....oh ok...85 miles then! In the meantime I got another 41(7 3/8") in the 771XX serial range(mid 60s?). And the price was really right on it so now I have 3. And I have 2 extra barrels. I may sell one of the bbls...probably the 7 inch one. My wife has glommed on to the one I got from Cabela's. Even though it is longer the darn thing is lighter even with the compensator. Darn these things are really nice shooters. Cleaning out the vault downstairs I have found all kinds of little things S&W. I didn't know I was a S&W collector! I do need to find a set of stocks/grips for a 41 though.

I suggest getting a False Nose for the longer Barrel and putting the Muzzle brake away. They are a pain in the bottom end to clean and can throw your shots off when its plugged. They are quite cheap to buy and easy to find as long as you tell them the serial No.

You may want to try ebay from time to time. 41 stocks are always for sale. (original and custom)

I did get a set of custom stocks and they do look good. As far as the compensator it is working just fine..no clogs etc. But I would like to find a nose piece for the one with the comp. Only one I have seen was priced at a hundred dollars. I am going to sell the targets that came on the gun. Can't remember the brand right now though
