S & W MODEL 66 no DASH HELP

Guys,

quick question, what about 125 grain 38 special ammo. Any issues with feeding it that flavor ?

Thanks.

I don't know about 125s in the 66 specifically, but many on this forum warn against 125s in the M-19, which is the analogous blued K-Frame. Reportedly runs the risk of a cracked forcing cone and excessive flame-cutting of the top strap. Recommendation is to leave the 125s alone and stick with 158gr .357 mag loads. .38 or .38 +p is OK regardless of weight.

BTW, congratulations on your purchase. M-66s are rare as hens' teeth here in MD. I could kick myself for passing up a 66-3 for $550 at a LGS, no box or papers. It's the only M-66 I've seen around here all year.

Guys,

I opted to go for this S & W. It is a very nice pistol to say the least. Everything seems nice and tight. I'd say it's in 90% condition. Just wanted to thank you all for the helpful advice.

If you are looking for a holster for it, Gould and Goodrich makes a nice 3 slot pancake that has a retention strap. I have the left hand version, my brother has the right hand version. It's a great holster, I got mine on Amazon for around $58 and had it in 4 days.

I think that is generally true of firing a lot of .357 mag through this gun anyway. It's been long known that they won't hold up to constant use of the magnum round. But for occasional self defensive purposes, they should work just fine.

I have to say, the 66 was my EDC gun of choice......up until Christmas day, when my wife gave me a S&W 1911sc E series bobtail. Man, what a gun!!!! :)

I still carry the 66 when hiking, mainly because I often carry snake shot loads for the copperheads.

BTW...not trying to rub salt into the wound, but a 3" 66 will often sell closer to around a $1000 if it's in pretty good shape. $550 is a steal.

I have never purchased a model 66 and regretted it. That is one model that i have never sold, after buying it. They are great revolvers and you cant find them on every street corner. Buy and enjoy.

The same can be said about the model 19. Both about as good as it gets. Purchased mine new 22 years ago. Others have come and gone but not the 19. Jim

Hey Gents

I landed on a Gallo holster for my 66. Kind of pricey but well worth the money. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase, holster and 4 inch 66 and glad I bought it.
