S&W Model 686 3 inch CS1

You did real good. Here are the grips I wore on mine back in 1988.

Since you are one of the FEW original owners did you send your gun back to S&W once or twice for the recall? Thanks

1 old 0311........They were issued in 1988 with the "M". Sent back for the "2M". Don't remember the year. .

Thanks for the info. Since you are one of the few original owners it's good to get some first hand information.

Here are some photos of the original paperwork in the boxes.

Some nice revolvers folks. Mine does shoot great, especially with the original full coberage rubber grips. My one and ONLY complaint is for a pure fighting weapon they should have at least installed a tritium night sight on at least the front for nighttime use.

Mine does not have the stamp, nor has it tied up in the 500 or so rounds I put through it. My no dash 586 never had the M Mod either and has always functioned well in over 20k-22k rounds. I shoot the heck out of it and it's my only .357 I've ever shot Buffalo Bores 180 gr. loads through. If I ever again need that much power I'll choose my 6" model 57 with 8.5 grains of Unique with a hard cast LSWC on top. Them 180 grainers have a definate slap to the hand factor, but will take a good sized deer down quickly. I would never shoot that round through ANY of my K models.

After you sent it in for the second 'M' was it returned in a brown box? Thanks!

p.s. did you, last year, sell a Model 34, and maybe a Model 38, to a guy at Meijers in Carmel? If so that was me.

My CS-1 I bought new on 1/26/1989 for $298.53

It doesn't have either of the "M" stamps in the crane, nor does it have the serial number stamped there.

It is serial number AYUxxxx and product code 104228. Spec Ord # 8328

1 old 0311......Our armorer/range officer handled the return. I exchanged my grips and turned over the CS-1 to him without the box. I don't know how he returned them or got them back.
I was not the person who sold his model 34. I would never do that.
