S&W N-Frame Grips on a L-Frame

I just got off the phone with S&W customer service and I ordered a pair of these grips, if you are a dealer you can order them for quite a bit less Nill does not make them, it is a company that starts with an "A", I can't remember the name exactly but the rep told me that Nill does make similar grips, but not for that price....ha ha. Just email S&W a copy of your FFL and you can get them w/o sales tax......not a bad deal for these grips at all!

OK, that helps out on the maker somewhat. They sure look like Nills the way they are designed. But as you say "a lot cheaper". Think if you got these same grips in Nills, they would run around $200.00 plus. At $48.00 for us "non-FFL'ers" that is still a great price. Last i heard S&W was out of stock on these. Guess us Forum Members "cleaned them out". They really fit great.

Had a previous question about the N-Frame Grips fitting on the L-Frames. Below is a picture of the 686-4 on the left and the 627PC on the Right. You can see where i "Sanded down the rear of the top Tab" so that it conformed with the L-Frame on the 686. Just a Slight Sanding. Not much. The wood in the grips are good & apparently the Stain is deeper than just the grip surface.

The S&W rep told me that numerous people have called wanting the grips due to your post.....yes he actually said that (S&W reads this as much as we do).....he said they did sell out but have more in stock as of today, he didn't tell me how many were left but he said they are hot sellers and they have anticipated many more orders of the grips. Maybe S&W should give you a free set of grips for all the business you sent them right?....ha ha

I have 2 sets of these grips as well as some Nill grips. The Nill grips are real nice, but bang for buck nothing touches these. Too bad they charge tax and shipping is kinda high for 4 ounces of wood. I don't know how I'm even gonna get the Nills off my 627; they literally snap on. Delivered from Germany in 3 weeks for just under $200.00.

Use a soft plastic hammer to remove the nills......slightly tap on the bottom of the grip in the direction that would seperate them, once they are seperated enough you can slip a credit card or something NOT metal in there and work them apart

I was so inspired by "exfebee's" post that I ordered 2 sets of these grips. Well...the UPS guy delivered them today and I just spent the last 30-45 minutes doing the L frame modification to the grips. It's a model 686+ with the moon clip conversion done by TK Custom. Here's the results of my work:

I believe they're made from a laminate. That's why the color goes all the way through.

Maybe, S&W will offer these as standard issue on the P.D. guns instead of those Eagle Grips that just don't fit.

Hi exfebee,

Thanks. The grips feel great. I just installed the second set on an N frame Smith and noticed that I need to take a bit more material off the modified set, in order for them to fit the contour just like the N frame gun.

I was thinking about using a dremel to remove most of the material, but ended up using an electric palm sander with 240 grit sandpaper. I might need to use the dremel to get into the sharp angles and finish up with the palm sander, starting with 240 and then maybe going to a higher grade grit. I'll give it another shot today.

Looks good Ed. I used the curved end of my Sears Belt Sander & then some 600 grit sand paper toward the end. Wonder how they'd look on a J-Frame.

After seeing them beauties on your weapons I had to have a pair for my 3" 657. Called them up with the product code and they had TWO left. Just bought one pair so if anyone likes them I'd be calling quickly.

Very nice snubs you have and them grips have a nice look about them. Pics coming but they won't be as pretty as yours.

Ordered mine last Friday,got them in the mail this morning,won't have the revolver until Monday or Tuesday of next week-will post pics when they are on and sanded,they look like they are made really well-don't think you can go wrong at that price-thanks for sharing Carl,

Guys..got off the telephone with Wayne at S&W. He said they have 200 of the grips in stock as of today 10/21/10. They are going to go quickly. Also determined the manufacture of the grips & I called them.They acknowledged they (Altamont) were the makers of these grips. They are doing two of the same grips in the J-Frame for me & shipping Thursday 10/21/10. Grips will have the burned-in S&W emblem. So, when they come in, I'll post pics & we'll see how they look.

I just ordered a set also. The first guy I got told that they Perf Center only stock and he was not sure how he to sell them. Asked to be transfered to Wayne and he "got her done" $48.00 + shipping.
