S&W PPK/S recall

I have a PPK/S that has an open recall related to a possible discharge if the decocking lever is used. My example is a recreational piece that is not carried for protection and when I do utilize it I never use that feature. I'm not a fan of using decocking levers in any event.

Is it worth shipping the gun off to Never-Never Land for an indeterminate amount of time to have this done?

Let me relate what happened when I sent my brand new PPK/S back to them, along with a note that it just came out of the box in perfect condition and I wanted it returned that way. When the pistol was returned there were severe vice marks on the right side of the trigger guard. I called S&W, talked to a supervisor who sent me a return label. I sent the damaged pistol back to them. A couple of weeks later I received a phone call, I was told that when they started making these pistols again in a couple of months I would receive a new pistol. They asked for my FFL which I gave them. As they promised I received a new pistol with the recall problem corrected. I wish they had fixed it right the first time without damaging it, I think a disgruntled employee read my note and decided to show me. Despite all of the extra time and problems it worked out better in the long run. I wouldn't want a new pistol with a dimple on it. I do use the decocking lever as almost every pistol I own is DA/SA, and that is what I was trained on.

How long ago did that happen? My understanding was that S&W no longer manufactures them. If they hurt mine like they hurt yours I may be up that one very nasty creek...

Agreed I am in the parts side of the new car dealer business and generally recalls need to happen. On the other hand you do not ship your car off for a month and walk to work hoping it comes back as opposed to being stolen or lost along the way.

A valid observation. The decocking feature is not the only way to release the hammer and my fingers still work pretty well. I don't have that feature on any of my S&W revolvers and I have gotten along just fine without it.

I have a PPK/S that was made way back when, by interarms. How far back does it go? I had an accidental discharge when I moved the safety to the Safe position from fire, while it was cocked. This was back in the 80's, very early 90's...

I'd never take a chance on a safety feature that was not working as designed. You never know what can happen and it's just not worth the risk.

I just sent a recently acquired S&W PPK/S into Walther for the recall repair. No muss, no fuss, had it back in about 2 weeks. Just had to call Walther's CS dept.

On any decoker pistol, use your thumb to assist lowering the hammer. Saves on wear and tear.
I have a couple of S&Walther PPKs pistols made in mid 2013.
They have never missed a beat and the blued one is a tack driver with the SS right behind.
I favor DA/SA pistols for city/fishing carry. A 1980 M59 is my goto
pistol in almost adult calibers.
Enjoy it.

As a loader, for some time, I like 115gr bullets for 380.
