Imagine having a chance to buy this revolver. It's a four screw Pre 29, circa 1957. It's definitely a shooter grade gun, not a collector's prized piece. It shows typical blueing loss, it has a marred crane lock screw, the red ramp front sight insert has been poorly repaired, the coke grips have a small chip missing from one of the backs, the presentation box has been relined, all tools and paperwork are gone. On the plus side mechanically it's 100%. You get the picture. So my questions are- - would you buy this gun? If so,how much would you pay?

I would not buy it myself. It is a shooter only. Not really any value in the box as it is either. Cokes have not big value chipped.

I would call it an 900 dollar shooter at best, but for that much, or a bit more you can get a mint 29-2.

I guess if you need to say you have a "pre" 29.....

Its just not my bag.

In my part of the world and I would guess most others, this would sell for $1500 all day. The boxes alone are $300 to $500. It is in really good shape for a shooter.

Another agree. Mine is maybe just a little better than this one, no box.
I don't know how many chances you actually get to buy one.

If you have to be in the right place at the right time. At the Big E show West Springfield, MA June this year I spotted a 4 screw 44 mag pre 29. The guy was asking 1600.00. The gun was tight slight cyl. ring a little, muzzle wear, nice cokes, no case. I walked away. At another table a blue case, good interior, rod, brush, swab, wrong screwdriver. No price. I asked figuring a couple hundred. He looked embarrassed and said 40.00 like he was asking to much. Needless to say I paid the man. I went back to look at the 4 screw and haggled a little and met at 1200.00. That is how much I would pay but I might not have taken a second look had it not been for the super bargain on the case. It was a great day at a usually disappointing show.

We hear of these great deals that happen all the time. In fact I bought a 38/44 outdoorsman for $300 last year! It needed a new hammer but it is in 90% condition. Is this the normal? Of course not!!! You guys who believe you can still buy at yesterdays price are not looking at today's price. With the internet and the different gun brokers the prices of yesterday are gone!!!

Hers is my pre 29, 5 screw with original coke grips and original matching presentation box, no tools that I paid $2,300 for. I would value yours at $1,400 - $1,600. Good Luck.

At the last gun show I attended, there was a private individual walking around most of the day with a very nice (but not quite mint - slight cyl. turn ring) 29-2 x 8-3/8" (no box) for which he wanted $700. And he was getting no takers. He still had it when I left. I offered $500, but he would not go below $700. I didn't need another M29 of any kind, but would have paid $500 in the hope I could turn it quickly for $600-$650.

I have looked at many of these as of late. The guys putting the gun at 1500.00 plus are correct. I have seen several examples like yours and some not as nice for 1500-1700 with correct grips and box.

I've got a Pre-29 five screw, blue with a 4" barrel. I would put the condition above a shooter, but below safe queen. It has the original cokes, but no box. I think I paid $900-1000 for it like 10 or 12 years ago. I have no idea what it is worth.

Yours my friend is worth 2600.00 and up. Somtimes quite abit up. 5 screw 4" models are rare from what I have seen and bring a premium. Would like to see pics.

This is information that nobody needs to know. It is a nice gun, early production, nice box, and I and many others would be proud to own it!

$1300 is my assessment. Some will pay more, others less.

I bet those grips would go $325 on flea bay. Box is a little rough, somewhere in the $175 range ?, and that leaves the gun at $800.

It's only been 5 years ago I picked up a 95% 29 no dash w/cokes on gunauction for $900.

I took some photos today. Let me know if you need to see anything else.

Nice gun. Thanks for sharing. The 4" 5 screws are so hard to find I would say that gun would easy bring 2600.00-3000.00 On a auction like Gunbroker maybe more. I would not sell myself. That one will increase in value quicker than most.

If you sell that pre29 for the price that some of the members are telling you it is worth, $900, please p.m. me! As I said before those "deals" only come around once in a great while. Some will be much higher, such as the ones on Gunbroker, and then there are the deals of finding a little old lady who only shot it on Sunday that wants to sell it for $200.
