I have not heard of there being a need for this. Another gimmick?

Were you having issues with your guide rod/main spring?

Yeah I have two shields from first batch released and they failed open in battery because of the small flat washer design that meets up to the barrel, and this guide rod allows for spring weight adjustment, and it got rid of the failure.

This is something most, if not at least all people upgrade in a lot of guns. One piece guide rods are very beneficial, and when I am counting on the gun for my life...I rather spend the $25 or so and upgrade.

When both of mine failed open in battery I did a google search and found multiple post here about the same thing.

What I really don't understand is that most people don't know about guide rod upgrades. I mean almost every gun I have is upgraded to a one piece stainless guide rod, it gives the gun much smoother action, etc..

Thanks for the explanation. Personally I've never upgraded a guide rod in any of my weapons, but I've (fortunately) yet to have any issues as you've described..

If I have those issues in the future, I'll know where to look first.. Thanks :)

As a Glock Armorer I have seen more issues with people replacing the guide rods with after market ones than any other type failure.

I'm sure this will hold true for the M&P line.

I'm sure if there was an issue with the stock RSA S&W would have addressed it. Just like Glock did on the Gen 4s.

I have been gunsmithing for a long time now, and every gun XDS, Ruger, etc.. that I have put a guiderod in either from galloway or others of that caliber has not failed me once.

My friend who runs a gun store is a Glock armorer and I saw what he had to go through to get that. Not knocking it all, but valid proof means more to me than just random comments.

I'll bring my Ruger SR22 to the range with 1,000rds and it has a galloway stainless guiderod and it won't skip a beat, just like the lc9, or the xds, etc...

I dunno, this was just meant to be informative...let the weak flame replies go I guess.

I called them with 2 serial numbers mentioned guide rods they 2 day shipped two of them without hesitation....they do know about it.

I apologize I don't mean to piss on your thread. After working with guns for the last 25 years I have become a firm believer in leaving guns stock, with the exception being sights.

I would buy it just to try it out if it was made to fit flush with the front face of the slide and coated black to match the melonite finish. i just can't stand how it looks with the allen key and round top.

yes i know it's stupid to put so much emphasis on how the gun looks vs functions but my 2 piece guide rod hasn't failed me, and it looks good in the gun

kinda makes you wonder how jmb got away with the 1911 design(no guide rod at all) for over a hundred years. Been all kinds of gingerbread gizmo 1 piece,2 piece bla bla upgrades came along and the original still works best.

Guess I will just keep my Shield 9 like S&W built it--I know it will go bang.

1 piece, 2 piece (red piece, blue piece!). Full length, SS, poly, yada yada.

Seems guide rods spark as much discussion as manual safeties. :)

Guide rod discussions aside (as a revolver guy this is over my head) if I would have tired that much shooting w/my airweight J I'd have some sore hands! Enjoyed the video, thanks.

Thanks for the video review. It's always nice to have a viable option if a problem does develop with the stock parts.

I would also like to add that I think the target in you video is dead.
