S&W Vs. Dan Wesson

As I remember, there was a sort of feeler gauge supplied which was used to set the gap distance between the cylinder and the rear of the barrel.

I think there was a DW revolver chambered in the short-lived .357 Maximum (as well as a Ruger), but that cartridge was so hot it caused damage to the top strap by gas cutting at the barrel-cylinder gap. I imagine one of those DWs in good condition would be very worthwhile to have, I've never seen one.

Here ya go:

with a .38, and a .357 cartridge for comparison. I like the cut out barrel. The super mag is the original X frame size...same size as the SW 500mag frame.

Buy as many of both as you can find good deals on! I own Dan Wessons in .22, .38/.357, .41 & .44 mag and love shooting them all. I will say that the blueing on DW's is usually suspect, so go with stainless steel when you can. I also own Smith J, K and N frames and love 'em all too! Smith's blueing is far better and ergonomics better. Also own Colt revolvers but honestly prefer both of the Wessons over the Colts.
