S&W vs Glock

I've always been biased against Glocks due to the grip angle and the finger grooves. I own 2 M&Ps and a Govenor, my wife figured I needed to add a Glock to my small collection so she bought me a Glock 17 Gen 3 in Dark Earth for Christmas. Well, long story short I snuck it out to the range today and the funny thing is once I started shooting I forgot all about the grip angle and that 2x4 shot really well, nicely accurate. I like em all!
 
I love Glocks. Currently own two; a Gen2 19 and a G36 .45, which has been my EDC for years. I love them because they always work, even if they're ugly. And I greatly admire how Gaston Glock completely shook up the handgun industry with his weird striker-fired, plastic-framed, almost indestructible, affordable, no hand fitting needed, amazingly reliable pistols. I owned several old-style S&W autos and that really heavy double-action first shot drove me away. The consistent Glock trigger pull, as well as their durability and reliability won me over.q
Fast forward a few years and now that big edge has dwindled. I just bought a Shield and love it. I even like having a manual safety. The quality is excellent, the trigger crisp and light enough for combat shooting. It's reliable and very accurate.
It's all good.
I'll keep my Glocks but now have a new Smith and, I'm sure, will look at other M&P's in the future.
 
I've owned a number of Glocks, but except for the 36, none of them felt good in my hands. (I have small hands.) The M&P line feels much better (with the small back strap) and the Shield feels the best of all the M&P line. Otherwise, the polymer that fits and feels best to me is the SD9VE. Of course, no pistol feels as good as a 1911! I haven't really tried a Gen4 Glock, though.

Here lately, I've read a lot about Glock problems...brass to face, and no real combination of recoil spring, ejector, and extractor that seems to work consistently in all guns. Seems like the "Glock perfection" isn't quite the same anymore. I know that any maker can put out a lemon, but seems like Glock is going through a difficult spell.

One thing about Glocks...you can find parts and aftermarket accessories galore for them. Much more so than any other pistol, except maybe a 1911. I wish they worked for me, but they just don't. I sure would like to have one of the Gen4 "Made in USA" models, but I'm not sure of their current reliability.

Those issues were solved almost a year ago. The new design recoil spring ended the problem, which was short lived.
 
GKC, I'm in the same boat. As I stated before I'm really trying to like them. I've fired many and none feel right in my hand. I got a little excited when I heard about the Gen4 I'm left handed so the ambidextrous mag. release was right up my ally. The back straps looked promising, but low and behold they still are not comfortable in my hand. I've looking to wrap my hands around a G30 Gen4 but no one has them. I did manage to find a G29 Gen4, but no cigar. I guess my next gun will most likely be an M&P40c, with a 357 & 9mm conversion.

Give this a whirl it gives the Glock a 1911 grip.

The only negative is it makes the grip a little bigger, so if someones has small hands, it's probably not for them. Otherwise, it makes a huge difference.

I have one of each...Gen 4 Glock 19 9mm and Shield 9mm. Like them both, but do have more of a fondness for the 'ugly' Glock. Maybe because this old dog use to fly a C-130...ugly, slow, noisy, jack-of-all-trades, but very reliable and got the job done.
 
I have both M&P's and Glocks. In the Glocks, I have a G26, G19, G17, G34 (all 9mm) and a G30S (.45 ACP). I carry an issued Glock 17 at work. I have the Shield in 9mm, a .40 FS, a .40C and a .45 FS. My second .45C is on its way. I have greatly prefer the 45C to the G30S, the 45 FS to the G21 and the Shield to the G26. The M&P 40s are easily changed to 9mm with a factory barrel and mags. Not so with the Glocks. Further, I don't like the lack of chamber support in the Glock .40s. In short, I own and like both, but the Glocks are in 9mm only as soon as I sell the G30S.

Girlfriends, fast cars and pistols. Different fits feel better than others. My factory Gen 4 19 shoots best. Sure, it looks like a stick of butter on a handle, but for me it fits, feels and shoots great. My Beretta PX4 full size feels terrific, I love the extra features and enjoy the replacement of a very light trigger. I shoot the Gen 4 19 only a little bit better, but maybe I just need to spend more time on the range and get used to the B's light trigger. I love my Shield 9 and it's features, too. Once I put a Hogue grip and changed the trigger, my shooting improved but I'm still pulling a little low left. It's me. I guess this is just the fun of different experiences.

You beat me to it. I much prefer the feel of my SW99's and my Shield vs. The Blocks, but when I shoot a Glock, the performance is excellent and the criticisms against their ergonomics go right out the window.

That's why I tell people new to pistols to rent them at a range and see how they feel when fired and not merely how they feel in their hand standing at their LGS' display cabinet.
 
Thank goodness for Apex Tactical and this forum, without either I probably would of purchased a Glock instead of the M&P Core. Learning about the Apex trigger help me decide on the M&P, frankly to me the stock trigger leaves lots to desire. I did shoot the Glock better but the M&P fit me better. Now I have a tack driver with a great trigger.
 
When I pick a self defense handgun there is a good chance it will have GLOCK etched on the slide and it will likely be one from this lineup.

My choice doesn't pass judgement on other brands, it just works for me...

Same. My only dislike for Glocks is their sub compacts
