I recently sent my S&W R8 back to Smith and Wesson (through Scheels where I purchased it from) for light primer strikes. It took a while but when they shipped it back to Scheels, they had replaced the frame. When I sent it off, the frame and barrel finish matched (were the same). When I went to pick up the "repaired revolver" the finishes were noticeably different. I refused the pick-up and Scheels contacted a S&W customer service rep. She claimed "in the blueing process (it's not a blued finish to begin with), since the frame and barrel are different materials they turn out different." I own a 329 PD and it's finish is the same (also a scandium revolver).

All of the ones I've seen (which have not been many), the frame and barrel matched. I had Scheels send it back to S&W for further evaluation. On the S&W's website they match.

So R8 owners: Does your frame and barrel match?

Thank you.

My frame is darker than the barrel and crane, but I honestly hadn't noticed till your post.

Under certain lighting conditions(sunlight), you can tell how the finish on the scandium has a different color than the steel ones. The scandium has almost a purplish/ blue color. The steel has a matte black finish.

If it's not direct sunlight. Both parts look the same.
Perfectly fine and normal.

No they don't match . The different materials are slightly different in color. But I'm not concerned about it and it doesn't bother me , I'll call it my pinto and ride off into the sunset !

Groo here
Given the type and intent of the TRR8 and it's ilk,,
I really don't care about the finish.[unlike a good blue or nickle]
These are working / shooting/ using/ fighting guns.
Like my Mil spec guns [AR-AK- M1A- Mini14]
They wear ,, that adds to their story......
