I recently sent my S&W R8 back to Smith and Wesson (through Scheels where I purchased it from) for light primer strikes. It took a while but when they shipped it back to Scheels, they had replaced the frame. When I sent it off, the frame and barrel finish matched (were the same). When I went to pick up the "repaired revolver" the finishes were noticeably different. I refused the pick-up and Scheels contacted a S&W customer service rep. She claimed "in the blueing process (it's not a blued finish to begin with), since the frame and barrel are different materials they turn out different." I own a 329 PD and it's finish is the same (also a scandium revolver).
All of the ones I've seen (which have not been many), the frame and barrel matched. I had Scheels send it back to S&W for further evaluation. On the S&W's website they match.
So R8 owners: Does your frame and barrel match?
Thank you.
