Safe solvents for Bodyguard 38 Spl

What are some brands of solvent that are safe to use when cleaning this revolver? When cleaning the barrel and cylinder I always manage to get some solvent on the frame. The manual just specifies any solvent "safe for polymers," but the solvents such as Hoppe's #9 don't state whether they are safe for polymers or not.

I usually use Hoppe's #9 and Rem Oil on my other guns. Are these safe for the BG, or should I use something else? Thanks for your advice and comments.

I use Hoppe's #9 on every gun I own, steel, aluminum or polymer without any problem. I never even thought about it.

Hoppes No9 is still my favorite on all my firearms.

Well, now that the floor is open, I'm expecting a 638 soon. SS barrel and cylinder but aluminum frame.

I too, am a Hoppe's #9, Rem oil guy. I have searched Google and You Tube and not have found a definitive answer.

All I could find is non-ammonia suggested. What to do?

I think the answer is pretty clear: feel free to use Hoppe's #9. So many gun owners swear by this product and have used it for generations. And there is no shortage of folks with polymer guns. I have never heard of anyone having a problem, and trust me, we would hear about it on this forum if there were a problem.

I assume you are asking about the new S&W plastic revolver, not the M38 or M49.

That said , I imagine anything that's OK for a Glock would be fine.

Rpg: Yes, the new polymer frame Bodyguard 38. But I don't know what's ok for a Glock.

BTW--Does the regular #9 (not the one for copper) have ammonia? Some have said yes, some no.
