Sandusky area

Could buy if that is the only way to get into a decent area. We looked at Huron. Is that a decent area?

Much better than Sandusky. 10 minute ride on Rt.6 from Huron to Sandusky.
Your location states NE Florida, can you be a little more specific so we know what comparisons would be comparable for 'decent'.

It is not just the cold, the weather sucks from November through April. Nice in the Summer and some beautiful spots. Lake Erie itself is very shallow an average depth of 73 feet and violent storms cook up rapidly in spring (2 weeks in May) and fall (3 days in September). Lake Erie does have good perch, walleye, and bass fishing. But do watch out for storms

I've driven past the San Jose section of Jacksonville many times on I95 on my drive down trips to Daytona Beach. Never paid attention (visual) to the neighborhoods.

Regarding the snow, front wheel drive with all season tires is adequate. The state, counties, and cities do a good job of plowing/clearing the main roads. because of salt used during wintery conditions, vehicles rust very quickly, the 'rust belt'.

Seems east of Cleveland is the snow belt and the areas south off the lake between Cleveland and Buffalo NY. Good idea to rent first to scope out the area if you eventually plan to buy.

You were close to attending the NE Ohio Bunch and being so close maybe we will meet you in the spring. Good luck, a lot to think about. Larry

How about living in your van down by the river. :D
I didn't know they named a town after Coach Sandusky.....

I'm from North of there but will ad: Sandusky is pretty much the farthest Western point of Lake Erie. Lake effect snow goes the other way, but that does not mean you will not have plenty of Winter. Cedar Point if you like amusement parks. Boats and tours are there. Islands are boozy and winey and touristy. 1812 fans can go by boat to visit Admiral Perry monument seen for miles. Cleveland R&R Hall of Fame is worth a good visit if you get close. Plus usual Great Lakes bonus: Nothing in there wants to eat you. Not much of a swimming lake, but that's just me.
