Yikes, Times have changed. I got mine from George F. Cake for $8.50 Carried for 15 years, used it a few times, and sold it for $10.00 Not too bad a deal.

Now it's $50 + Shipping:eek:

Nice blackjack Giz.

Another good substitute for a sap or blackjack is a monkeyfist knot around a good fishing weight.

My cousin Greg had one that looked like a giant leather exclamation point with a thong on the narrow end. The business end had a cookie-shaped disk of lead on a flat steel spring. He had a pocket behind the stripe of his uniform trousers where he kept it. He always called it a "slapper". I'm sure it was an ugly surprise on several occasions.

On a completely separate note, his father, Uncle Leo, carried an interesting adjunct to handcuffs called "the claw". It had a "T" handle that closed the jaws as the handle was twisted. Naturally, Greg and I tried it out on each other several times. It ALWAYS hurt!

Have a Buchemier "slapper" in my door panel right now.
Had no idea it was a "collectable" in some quarters.

I still pack one on duty. Have two Gonzales Copies one of which was made by Todd Foster and also carry an 18 ounce Texan Copy also made by him. Both are real attention getters!

Gentlemen,
I started carrying a blackjack (8 ounces, round, with leather throng) in 1972 and carried one until I retired in 1999. I was 'relieved' of it by certain gold badges at different times, but I always came up with another one. I NEVER had a repeat offender when I used one, and heartily endorse them.
They work especially well when fighting with mental fools who simply won't do what they're told. This was all prior to the invention/widespread use of tasers, of course. Had 'sap pockets' built right into my uniform pants in 1986 in Cleveland.
I take one when I go on walks in the evening. They still work and can be hidden much easier than expandable batons (ASPs, etc.)
