Satellite TV Rant!

I have Dish and they have been better than the cable guys. I would not use Direct if you put a large caliber gun to my head. They lie, cheat and steal at every opportunity. With Dish you have to call every few months and fuss about the deals they are offering new subscribers and they usually will sweeten your deal if you threaten to bail. Both Dish and Direct brag about offering 250 channels but it is more like 80 as they count the same channel about three times. I do like the ability to turn off service while you are on vacation which saved me about $80 while we were on our trip. Hold their feet to the fire every chance you get and they will take better care of you - as in a few free months of pay channels or $10 a month off your bill for a year etc. As I pointed out to Dish a couple of months ago, it is cheaper to make me happy than send a crew out to retrieve their dish and DVR. Remember the old adage: "From sex to sales nothing beats asking. There are only two answers and only one of them is bad. You don't ask, you don't get!" (o;

Steve, I do get 376 channels but it comes at a cost of $114 per month and most of the channels are those 24/7 infomercials or else things like Sirrus or some such. Of course, I get the six local channels at a cost of $15 per month included in the $114.

Oldman, I know what you mean. I have 11 channels of Hockey and 10 more of NBA most of which don't have anything on them about 20 hours a day and none of which I ever watch. Throw in 40 music and infomerical channels and the count goes up. They count the local channels twice, once for digital and once more for Hi Def. Same for the movie channels, Cinimax, HBO etc get counted at least twice and then counted again for the Spanish versions. Of the 250 they claim there only about 80 different channels and I watch about 30 of them. The problem is the way they package the channels. To get the 30 I want I haver to pay for 250, plus the extra charge for local stations.

It may be felony thread drift or maybe we need a new thread but....anybody having any first hand experience with Roku, Apple TV or any of the other products that stream your computer to the TV? If they work I would love to tell Dish to shove. Like folks have noted 250 channels and nothing on most of the time. )o;
