I was at a local Gander Mountain since I have a craving for another 3rd gen and I had seen some at that location before. They did have a 5906 that looked like a possible police trade, so as I am looking in the case by the new guns I see a tag for a 4006TSW with a price of a little over $800. It had the riveted rail and said it came with 3 mags, so I am guessing a contract overrun perhaps? There were no marks on it at all and looked and felt brand new.

Sure was nice but $800+ is out of my range and with the market flooded with used ones I can't see paying that much just to have its value drop almost in half when I walk out the door anyway.

But man was it nice.

It also had a bobbed hammer and I believe was decocker only because the safety sprang right back up.

Just thought I'd share since it seems pretty rare to see new ones. :)

Most likely a LE overrun, you see them pop up every now and then. The $800 would not be out of line for a new all stainless 3rd generation gun, retail is over $1,000. But like you said with all the trade-ins running around $400 a person would really have to want a brand new one. I ran through several last year that had the 3 mags and integral rail, wish now I had kept one.

The GM near me has one for $870. It has been there for a loooooong time.

BTW, I bought this one with 5 mags last year for $400.

I now need a replacement keyboard, to replace the one I just drooled all over. :)
Nice 4006

Last time I shot it I rented a Glock 23 .40S&W to compare the two. The Glock felt very snappy compared to all that S&W steel absorbing the recoil.

Any 4006 is a must have in your firearm collection.

New or LNIB non-police trade in? I would have bought it. I don't like the fragile mismatched anodized aluminum that discolors over time. Plus the added weight is nice. In the several months looking I never saw a new or like new 4006TSW, just LE trade-ins.

It's not fair... how come Alaska gets gets a scant share of the goodies? :( There are tons and tons of Glocks in the stores. But I have only ever seen one 3rd generation Smith.

I'd be happy with a few Beretta or Sig pistols (metal frame rules :D), but those are just about as rare.

Went back to that Gander that had this new 4006TSW since I was in that part of town..... and it was gone. :( I wanted to fondle it again and figured for $800 it would still be there.

The only 3rd Gen they had was a 457S for $649

Exactly what constitutes a 3rd generation S&W?

and I was thinking the 5906 TSW brand new for $769 at CTD was out of line....it's been there a while, but I can't seem to find a used one around here (or the 5903 TSW cause I'm looking for either...oh and the 5903 SSV LOL)

I might head over tomorrow and ponder....tough luck...good luck in your search

Yeah $800+ was too much for me to spend. When I can find a 4006 under $400 locally and a 4006tsw on summit gunbroker a lot cheaper too.I just wanted to look at it again.lol

Last time I checked, Summit Gun Brokers had 4006TSWs for <$400.
