For me double stack subcompacts are too bulky and heavy for conceal carry. The single stacks fit in the gun pocket on my wife's purses and adds a lot of weight to her purse. Both ladies prefer the softer grip texture. We all love the reliability of the Shield. The double stack is more weight that I do not want.

Time to start thinking about a different gun.

The Shield Plus weighs less than the Shield or Shield 2.0 and the little bit of width on the grip is very minimal.

Between the 2.0, Plus, EZ and the PC models there are so many variations the 1.0 likely didnt add sales. Just took from one of those other versions.

.6 oz. is a lot considering the extra metal for the magazine. I wonder where they shaved the weight? Of course when fully loaded the Shield Plus will weight more. Anyway having the 1.0 and 2.0 Shield competing against each other doesn't make business sense.

The 1.0 is dead but not forgotten (yet anyway).

I owned a Shield 1.0 and now have a 2.0 and both are pretty much the same pistol with the 2.0 a little better trigger I guess. Same size as far as I know and use the same magazines.

The 1.0 designator is just used by us consumers to differentiate between it and the 2.0...I don't believe it's ever been officially referred to that by S&W

I went with the Hellcat option over the P365 when looking a replacement for my Shield and couldn't be happier. Between the two, the Hellcat fits my hand way better, the sights are better and just shoots better and the grip texture is beautiful! Of course these are just my opinion...oh I've added an Apex trigger kit and it's absolutely fantastic!

All the M&P Shields I've seen in over a year where the 1.0 with less texture & no trigger stop..
I assumed this was S&W getting rid of the older frames & magazines from inventory..
I'm glad that We came across the Shield 2.0 9mm & the texture on this pistol is amazing, No Need for Talon grips etc.. Good To Go from the factory.. Bought October 2019 for $249..
Only thing I've done to this pistol is buy two extra magazines which where the 1.0 style BTW + a couple holsters & ammo

You do realize the 2.0 and the Plus are not the same right? Why would you have to look for a different gun just because the old 1.0 is being discontinued? The 2.0 has a better trigger and grip texture, which could be softened if it's too aggressive for some, otherwise they are the same as the 1.0...

I have a first gen Shield and now have a plus. You can barely tell the difference between the two size wise. The grip is slightly wider but nothing what you would expect for a double stack which is really a 1.5 stack. And I really like the way it fits my hand and the trigger is awesome.

It's like introducing your spouse as, "My first wife."

The grip of the Plus is about 1/8" thicker, otherwise they seem to be the same size and use the same holsters as the 1.0 and 2.0.

To be honest, I'm surprised that they kept it in production this long, but then again, based on pricing, it seemed like it was being offered as a budget alternative to the Shield 2.0 models.

Regardless, it makes no great bit of difference since the 1.0 and 2.0 models share parts, so the Shield 1.0 will still most likely remain peripherally supported by S&W as far as Warranty/Repairs are concerned.

That being said, I'm really not surprised to see that the 1.0s are being dropped, as it seems as though they weren't selling anymore, presumably because the average consumer wasn't aware of how similar the 1.0 and 2.0 models actually were, ergo they'd opt for the 2.0 under the presumption that it was a substantial upgrade.

Seriously, back in January I was able to order a NiB Performance Center M&P40 Shield 1.0 for only $360 on Clearance while the equivalent 2.0 model was going for at least $550, and to me a rougher grip texture and a slightly better trigger wasn't worth the extra $200+.

Granted that they've since come out with the Shield PLUS, which would logically seem to be the heir apparent to the Shield Series, but currently it's only available in 9mm, and depending on which way the wind blows down the line it's advantage in terms of magazine capacity may effectively be rendered moot.

I never understood why they continued to market the 1.0 after the 2.0 came out. I have one of each and the 2.0 is superior, albeit it slightly.

Same with Pmags. Why do they continue selling the Gen 2 after the Gen 3 came out?

Well slap me silly and call Shirley for preferring the 1.0 Shield over the 2.0 model. We both also prefer the M&P 9mm 4.25" Gen. 1 with APEX Duty Trigger over the 2.0.

With the 1.0 Shield being discontinued it will mean hunting the used guns for one. Maybe a dealer will have a n.i.b. one at a cheap price to avoid the "disadvantages" by buyers of the older model.

Maybe I should open a orphanage for unwanted 9mm 1.0 Shields and M&P's.

Typically companies don't label their first generation products as such because it makes no sense from a marketing standpoint to do so. (If they labeled the Shield 1.0 as the 1.0 right from the start, then it would have only hurt sales by either confusing consumers into thinking that there was already a 2.0 on the market or otherwise that it was planned obsolescence in action.)

What exactly are the differences?

The Shield 2.0 has a more aggressive grip texture, improved trigger pull, and abbreviated front slide serrations.
The Shield PLUS is slightly wider in the grip to accommodate a double stack magazine and an improved trigger design over the 1.0/2.0 models.

Note: There are no differences between the M&P45 Shield 1.0 and 2.0 aside from rollmarks, as the M&P45 Shield was the basis of the 2.0 redesign of the M&P9/M&P40 Shield, and thusly already included the 2.0 features right from the beginning. The 2.0 slide marking on the M&P45 Shield were added later on merely for the sake of clearing consumer misconceptions that the M&P45 Shield was inferior to the M&P9/40 Shield 2.0s.

I bought both a 40 and 45 performance center Shield when they first came out and despite the 4 or 5 other CCW weapons I own I carry one or the other of these Shields every day. Sorry they do not make them anymore but I expect mine will outlive me. Good guns taken care of last more than one lifetime polymer or not. So yes, either look for something else or I would guess there is a million or so of them out there on the used market.

In December 2019 I bought a Shield (1.0) for a crazy low price. They Were $269 at Cabela's. There was a $50-dollar instant coupon and then S&W had a $50 rebate that I filed electronically. I had that $50 Visa gift card within 7 days. Because I bought it at Cabela's and used my Cabela's credit card and with redeeming my Cabela's bucks I ended up spending $40 dollars for the Shield(1.0) I bought a Hogue slip on grip and when using an 8 round 2.0 Magazine with its extra stippling the pistol feels great in my large hand. I did not need another micro 9 because I already owned a Sig P938 and a Kimber 9 but I have to say I love my Shield (1.0)!
