I have seen many posts on the scam artists on the gun sale sites.
I had one recently and thought that I would share.
I found one of the revolvers that I have been looking for.
There it was, it was real late on a Friday night. I really wanted it, so I bid on it.
I get up the next morning, to find out that I had won the revolver.
After really looking at the item again, I see that it was only a 1 day auction. I knew that the seller had a zero rating. I am thinking why would one sell an expensive S&W revolver with a 1 day auction. One would want to get the most they could get out of a revolver like this.
After looking at the pictures again, I am thinking "where have I noticed these pictures before?".
I looked through old auctions on another site. Sure enough, there it was. It sold in January of
this year.
I downloaded the pictures, and did a comparison, and they were exactly the same pictures.
I contacted the seller and asked for the serial number for my FFL, and asked him if I could come pay him in person, and we could ship the revolver at that time.
I contacted the web site, and they got back to me on Monday, and said that it is no doubt fraud, and that they were looking into it.
Never heard back from the seller after asking for the serial and if I could pick it up.
Thought that I would post this. In this day and age, you just never know. Be careful, don't get ripped off.

I'd like to know which site and who the "Seller" was both. These Clowns need as much public exposure as can be brought to them.

Yes, please list the seller name and the website. I passed on a gun I was interested in a couple weeks ago that had a reserve and had been re-listed a couple times, as the seller had "0" sales. I asked a couple questions, and never received an answer, so I passed.

The auction site was Gunbroker.
The seller was lt.le.
The seller was in Chicago.
It was only a 4 1/2 hour drive to their location, so I thought if this is legit, I will gladly drive the distance.
Glad I did not get burnt.
I knew that asking for the serial number would basically cause this person to disappear, if he did not have the item. And if he did supply a number, it could easily be checked out to see if it was in the right number range.
Be careful, they are out there.

Are you sure about that user name? I tried every variation that I could think of in open & closed auctions but nothing came up. Would it be possible to post the auction number?

I just searched and it is still on the completed items.
item no. 127257343
It appears after looking that there may be a space between the period and the l in the users name.

Good point.
I did not know that Chicago has a handgun ban. I learned something new.
I guess that bidding that late at night, I did not really think about that issue and several others.
It is a shame that there are so many dishonest individuals trying to take whatever they can get.

Chicago does not have a handgun ban per se. You can have a handgun if it's registered with them. Of course, shortly after passing this they stopped taking any new registrations. Those that were registered before thay stopped are still legal but they need to be re-registered regularly and if you miss the date your out of luck unless you are an alderman like Dick Mell (our discraced ex-Governor's father-in-law) He missed his date (He forgot???) and they re-opened registrations for a day so he could keep them. Naturly, this special deal was only for him.
Thank God I do not live in Chicago or Cook County.

thanks for the heads up cobra44, you not only saved your money, but probably helped some others here save theirs.
