Was at our local Wal Mart today to buy some Federal 22 ammo. Clerk had to look at my DL to see if I was old enough. Said soon they will be requiring a scan of your drivers license to sell you ammo. Asked if it was a city or State thing and they said a Wal Mart requirement coming soon. They must want out of the firearms business again.

Depending on where you live, DL's can contain more than what you see on the face. SSN's etc. Hotel or wherever that needs to see my ID, I'll hold it and let them verify who I am, but refuse to let them scan it. I guess no walmart ammo for me, which I haven't bought any since before the last "craze".

I can see their asking for ID to verify age. The last time I bought ammo at WM a couple of weeks ago, the clerk did ask to see my DL, but all he did was look at it (even though a blind man would know that I am far beyond 18). No idea how they could go any further with scanning, etc., at least in states where simple OTC ammo sales are allowed without any red tape.

Don't care for Walmart since I saw a show describing how they treat their suppliers.Beginning to not like Amazon since it seems they're getting preferential treatment to use the USPS.

When the time comes that there is only one or two big conglomerates that promise to fulfill all your needs and wants you will have lost your freedom of choice or for that matter...your freedom period.

I don't see any difference between Walmart,Amazon,Google,Facebook or D.C. when it comes down to wanting a piece of me.

I hate Walmart.
I went to buy a one day Range Pass and I was told that I had to have passed the Hunters safety course to get one.
Those People must be on drugs or something.

The Giant Eagle grocery store chain here in PA scans your drivers license every time you buy beer. They also scan it for all prescriptions. No other local store does this, so I don't buy beer or get scripts at Giant Eagle. I haven't found any ammo I've needed at Walmart in two years and if they want to scan my DL I won't buy there.

Bought a 200 round value pack of WWB in 9mm at our local wally world. Gent asked to see my DL. I'm 70 so asked him how old do you think I am?. Told me 65. Told him to read the DOB on the DL. Said he was required to check dates of birth. Frank

I've not allowed a couple of new Dr. Offices that I'm started going to to photocopy my license. They can look at it to verify my identy, but no photocopies.

And I will not give them my social security number.

They have grudgingly agreed. I make it clear that is not negotiable.

The scan is the best check for fake ID's. Not justifying it, just explaining it . . .

SURE YOU CAN SEE IT

See it with your eyes, NOT HANDS! WAY too much info on a DL that can then be used for tracking/marketing, annoying spam, or sold. Want my DOB? Sure, let me think up a good one. My respiratory supply (BiPap) dealer won't accept cash???

Why would they invest $$$ to stop selling? If they wanted out they'd simply stop selling. Scanning is so that the clerk doesn't have to do math or get fooled with fake ID. Same thing is done here if you buy cigarettes. It will only be a problem for a few people, everyone else won't care.

Here's how it works 90% of the time. Don't scan my DL because I'm afraid of some database but here let me pay with my credit/debit card!

That being said I go to WM to buy socks not ammo. Their selection is none existent and in my area WM does not sell ammo at all. Not one round. No shotgun shells, no 22lr.... nothing! So it's really hard to get bent out of shape about a retail store that sells some ammo, sometimes, in some locations
