Scope for M&P 10 (Hunting)

What's your budget? Where and what are you hunting? I hunt with a 3.5X ACOG on mine. Pretty much any scope will work fine. Mounting is what you'll have to pay attention to. Quality 1PC mounts run $100-$250 depending if you want QD or not. Rings and Risers will be less expensive, but perhaps not as secure.

for hunting, I love the 3.5 ACOG. It is not for precision work, but it does a great job on everything else that I have asked from it. Plus with the Tritium, its easy to take those early morning, late evening shots.

I can't argue with 3.5 ACOG.

I think most people over scope their rifles. I've got a real affinity for 2x7-32 scopes on my bolt guns, and a 1.5-6x32 on my AR's. We have to remember that a deer at 350 yards viewed with a 3.5 power scope appears to be the same size as one at 100 yards without a scope. Probably 95% of the game shot in this country are shot a lot closer than 350 yards.

That looks like a nice scope for sure, but once you breach that price range, a NightForce is just a hop away.

I used the Nikon m308 scope on mine when I went out this year. Great scope for the price. Really did well when zeroing in. Didn't get to use it on an animal but tons of good reviews on them so far.

That's my thinking also!
More information about the type of hunting, such as game animal, terrain, expected distances, shooters ability, etc. would be very helpful.
I worked as a gunsmith and at shooting ranges for several years. It was quickly apparent that high power scopes are usually best left on the shooting bench. In most situations a 3x9 scope would be more than enough, and is often to much.
My personal hunting rifles have 4x, 1.5-6, and 2-7 scopes. We all need to remember that our shooting abilities are different under field conditions than from the shooting bench.

Trying to keep the cost around $500-$600

If you want it to fit more into the "tactical" rifle category, the Leupold MarkARMod1 with Firedot SPR is a pretty good bet @ $399: Leupold 1.5-4x20 Mark AR MOD 1 Riflescope

If it's purely a hunting rifle, any traditional hunting scope will do. What I said above about the mounting applies either way. Personally I'm partial to Leupold as I believe they offer the best comprehensive value package in terms of quality, warranty, service, and re-sale.

I'd still want to keep it fairly compact and light for the Southern US terrain you're talking about.

Either this 1-4: Leupold 1-4x20 VX-2 Riflescope

Or this 2-7: Leupold 2-7x33 VX-2 Riflescope

They're both $299. You might could save a little shopping used, but $250 is usually the floor for used Leupolds anyway.

For a quick release mount if you want to change to backup irons or a red dot or something this ADM is good for $180: American Defense AD-RECON 1" Scope Mount

For a permanent mount, this Leupold is nice for $100: Leupold Mark 2 IMS 1" Integral Mounting System

A lot of guys like the Burris PEPR for $75 too. I personally think they look chunky and heavy: Burris AR-P.E.P.R. 1" Scope Mount
