Scored a 36-2 DAO, Matte Blue with J Combats

Product Code 102522 was identical with one exception, it came with "synthetic grips." I'm not positive which ones.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Ed., details many, if not all, product codes for the various models.

Hope this helps.
Here is product code 102522 but in a 3" barrel! I purchased it as being NIB over the internet! I believe the grips are Uncle Mike's.

Oops, I made another two mistakes, Joe.

101520 is the one the OP has, and 101522 was the one with "synthetic grips," and it was a 3". Thanks for keeping me straight.

I believe the grips on yours are the same as on the Model 36-6, the Hogue Monogrip.

There's at least one other carbon steel DAO 3" Chiefs, too (there were also stainless steel DAO Chiefs).

The 36-8 (ca. early '90s) came that way, and it had Uncle Mike's grips. The key about the 36-8 is that, like it's snub-nosed 36-7 brother, it has the ⅛" wide front sight (as opposed to the old standard 1/10th" sight).

It was also the last 3" carbon steel Chiefs Special without MIM parts and the IL.

Mines not a matte finish but is DAO and with a regular sa/da hammer in the box with it, and it's a 3" 36-8. It came with the Uncle Mikes banana style grip.

That's odd, that it came with a separate hammer.

From the factory?

But the sear (action) is DAO?

From the factory?

One really could spend a lifetime collecting these guns.
