what do you guys prefer for SD ammo in your .38 snubbies?

i have a 64-4 & a 66-2 with 2.5"bbls & am looking for some SD ammo.

i know .38 SD ammo is almost a forgotten category, but someone must be making a great SD product.

i've read a little about Speer Gold Dot 158gr, but i prefer hearing from you folks.

as usual, all info. is greatly appreciated,

I am using Speer 135 grain SB .38s and Cor-Bon 110 DPX in my snubs.
I have some Nyclad .38s but they don't shoot to point of aim in my guns as well as either the Speers or Cor-Bon loads.

I like Buffalo Bore's 158g +P LSWCHP. I think it's the load to beat right now.

Fed. 158LSWCHP+P for my 66-2 & 65-5 3-inch shoot to POA for me! They work well in my 64-2 also. However I just purchased some BB 158LSWCHP+P and some of the .38SPL low flash 158s but have yet to get to the range with them.

I use either 158 grain +P lead hollowpoints (FBI load) or 147 grain +P+ Hydra-Shoks. I've got a stash of both, and I doubt there's any difference between the two once they end up in a bad guy.

Remington 158 +P LHP, or BB 158 LSWCHP. BB also has +P version of that, but it's really stout in a snub, much hotter than the +P Remmy IMO.

Remington, not Winchester, 158 gr +P LSWCHP ammunition still has quite a fan base. The lead is softer in the Remington version than the Winchester, thus most people feel that it is more likely to expand at snub nose velocities. An alternate theory is that the heavy weight, SWC shape, and decent penetration will still deliver a mean wound even if it doesn't expand.

Many others use the Speer 135 grain +P offering meant for snubs.

Me? I use the Remington/UMC 125 grain JHP +P offering that comes in the 100round value packs. It isn't great, but it isn't terrible either. The lead is once again softer than, and the QC seemingly better than, the similar mass market Winchester personal defense offering. It's easy to find and much cheaper than many premium offerings and it's worked well in every revolver I've tried it in (I generally have a drawer full of .38s laying around).
