SD Triggers and Mag Extensions Coming Soon From Apex

The match was going great until I discovered that I had a brain fart during my reloading about a year ago when I made the ammo. I missed Crono by 3 points so I got an automatic DNF. Oh well. I've been a competitive shooter for 8 years, it was bound to happen some time.

Oh by the way, feel free to post pics of your mag extensions when you get em.

Scott

They make you chrono your rounds? Didnt know that, I suppose its to keep people from using ultralight loads to reduce recoil increasing the follow up shot speed?

What are the requirements for the CHRONO
What caliber where your using?

Got my package today and installed the mag extension, trigger and spring kit right away. What a difference. Went to my LGS and checked the trigger pull - it's slightly above 6lbs. and no over-travel at all. Cycled the mag manually - flawless. Can't wait to go to the range this weekend.

Quick question for you other testers... Did you magazine become harder to seat after installing the extension? I really gotta slam mine in if the slide is closed. With slide open its butter. I checked my other magazines and still don't have this problem. Its just with the extension on.

Which model do you have? I left enough space in the testers I had here to allow the magazine some "float" once the mag was seated.

Can you post pics of where it's hitting?

I just emailed you back about my other issue. I believe its pushing up against the slope part of the slide. I could probably trim a coil or 2 off my spring to take care of the problem. Getting the last bullet in is really hard even with my uplula so i imagine trimming the spring will take tension off and make it easier to seat. I have the sd40ve and my spring sticks out nearly 1 1/2in past the base so trimming a coil or 2 off won't hurt anything

Trimming the spring is certainly acceptable if you need to. I didn't have any trouble loading +3 into either of the pads with the mags I have here. Did you leave the little plastic base retainer in the bottom of the extension or leave it out? I had it out for testing.

Scott

I also left it out. But like i said... My spring is huge so Im gonna give it a quick trim before i head to the range.

Just took 2 full coils out of the spring and now its much better. With the spring out and the extension on... There was about 4 1/2 coils sticking past the bottom of the extension. I can now load the 17th round by hand and through mag seats into the gun alot better. It also took care of the issues we discussed in my email. I expected there to be some modification required because lord knows there's different variances between different springs.

Perhaps we'll designate them as a Plus 2 mag extension for the 40 cal and let people know that they may be able to get one additional round in if they're lucky and or cut the spring.

REALLY NICE!!!

Absolutely LOVE the mag extension, it's a must have for EVERY SD series, no question about it! The capacity comes up to par with my PT-92 9mm!! 17 rounds of 40 cal is flat awesome in every way. I even kinda like the green :D

Trigger is GREAT, (trigger not installed in photo taken last night, but is now!) very little tweaking, took only a few minutes to install, absolutely wonderful. SO MUCH BETTER than the factory setup. Much shorter pull, nice and smooth, cant say enough good about it. Range time!!!

That's one idea... But so far Im the only one to experience this issue so maybe just include a note in the package explaining what to do. Like i said... Not every spring is the same so maybe if i tried it on one of my other mags it would of worked better.

I just wrote up a review in a new thread, but I could not be happier with the extension or the trigger. I did not have an issues loading my mags to their new capacity or seating them into my SD9. Perhaps it's a 'fortay thing.

Scott: do we know what colors the extensions are going to come in? Turns out I really like the green on my SD9, but now I want a silver / clear color for my SD9VE.

.40 cal ....Zero issues loading 3 additional rounds, but I do use an Uplula loader.....

I was able to get +3 for a total of 18 in my Sw40F 15 round mag I did not have to cut the spring. The last round was a bit stiff but it did not require a loading tool either.

I will try it on a 14 round SD mag when I get home tonight.

My only "complaint" for lack of a better term is the color is more of a shamrock green than foliage green but it still looks nice and fits with my Irish side :D

Aye, there always after me Lucky Charms.:D

In all seriousness though, I too wish the color was a bit more subdued. Other than that, I have no complaints or suggestions.

Well... I just left the range. I suck again. I think i was just off my game today. Just didn't feel like myself.

I was panning a range trip today, but an opportunity for a little over time came up. I'll get to the range ASAP.

thakingcb7, don't feel bad, I not a good shot either. I need a lot more trigger time, but we all know that take money for the ammo and finding the ammo. I've been thinking about getting a CO2 pistol for some cost effective trigger time.

got my kits in the mail yesterday. put the mag extension on first and had to remove the plastic plate on the spring to fit 3 rounds but it works great. it does seem to need a little more force to seat mag but definitely worth it in my opinion. now the bonus at least to me. A few years back I amputated my trigger finger, so now am pulling trigger with middle finger which leaves 2 fingers holding actually grip. it worked but marksmanship was not what I expected. after installing the mag extension I am able to get 2 fingers of left hand on grip and extension in a modified 2 hand shooting style. after shooting 4 mags of 17(:D) my groups at 7 yards closed right up to less than half of what they were. will install the rest of the kit and do another review.

I don't really consider myself a bad shooter... I definitely need more practice so i can move back to longer distances though. I just think i had an off day. All the excitement of the new goodies and making sure everything was working properly had me distracted. I have a big range day set up with 5 friends for the 20th so Im gonna shoot a couple more times til then so i can shake the excitement.

I wasn't saying BAD, I just don't consider myself GOOD either. My range is normally not that busy (1 or 2 other shooters) but the last time I was there it was packed and I had a bit of an off day. I normally don't shoot for groups, but at something that will move when I hit it (like small boxes).

I usually have the little lady with me so i don't get much practice in anymore. One of these days Im gonna get down there and practice quick shots at various targets.

Tried the extension with a 14 round Sigma magazine and the SD magazine tonight.
I experienced similar issues with the SD magazine being difficult to seat if the slide was closed, however with the Sigma mag its perfect all three extra rounds go in smoothly and it leaves a little wiggle room which makes seating the mag with the slide closed smooth as well and takes very little pressure.

If you look a the springs it appears the Sigma spring is a tad bit shorter and the legs on the follower seam to be a bit shorter as well.

Well now i don't feel so bad about being the only one experiencing it. Even after taking 2 coils out its still a little tight and racking the slide is still a bit rough. I have the extension on my "range" magazine that i usually only load5 rounds in so its not that big of a deal. It only seems to be a problem when i load all 3.

Why unhappy?

Question for the testers, have you installed the SD Carry/Duty spring kit that was sent with the Extension. Does it differ in any way from the older ones? I noticed that the trigger return spring has come pre filled with white lithium grease, I skipped that part on the install with my carry/duty kit that I purchased as I did not have any on hand.

Flork can you tell us the purpose of the lithium grease inside the trigger return spring?

Originally we filled the coils with grease because it helps attenuate recoil and dampen vibration as well as provide lubrication to the spring when in use. Our new springs come with a felt core which helps with the vibration dampening so grease is no longer necessary, however you could oil the felt in the spring if you wanted to make sure that the spring ran as smooth as possible.

still regretting not being fast enough on the draw with my email to test the extensions...im green with envy :( when can i purchase one since i cant test one? or can i purchase a test product?

Okay that's what I was thinking it was for, just figured I would ask.

It thought it looked like a felt core but I didn't look real close and assumed it was white grease.

I will switch out the old Carry duty kit for the new one to see if I can notice a difference.

That's the way life works sometimes. I have never been selected for anything like this before and was shocked and honored that I was actually selected.

Us testers were told they would be released soon so I cannot give you any info beyond that.

I imagine they are waiting for feedback from the testers. I can't speak for the other testers but I have not got any range time with it yet, my first opportunity will be this weekend and I will put 200 rounds downrange.

Same here, can't wait to finally "waste" some copper jacked lead. The felt trigger pull with the Carry/Duty spring kit is already better than the stock springs, but the eliminated over travel is what makes my trigger finger itch like crazy. ;):D

I expect the mag extension to function flawless. Totally awesome that I can pack my SD9VE with a total of 20 rounds (19+1).
