I recently purchased a S&W SD40VE and with reading all of the stories of people having issues, I did not waste any time to address them before I got too comfortable.

First off let me start by saying that there are numerous companies out there to get products from and this is just my list of links and experiences with the items I purchased. First thing I wanted to address was the trigger weight and smoothness. I contacted Scott (Flork on here) from Apex Tactical Specialties to order the SD Polymer Action Enhancement Trigger to correct the issues caused with the stock trigger. I am saddened to say that I had an issue with the original trigger that was ordered and Scott helped with the issue and sent me out a replacement ASAP! The replacement trigger should be here Tomorrow (9-28-13) and I will give more details about that accordingly!

Other items I purchased for my SD40VE were from Galloway Precision. I ordered the Reduced Power Spring set which includes 1 more spring (Lighter Sear spring) than Apex BUT, not really sure it is needed.. The SD VE Kit Includes lighter striker spring, lighter blocker spring, lighter trigger return spring and lighter sear spring. I also ordered from Galloway the Wide Body Take Down Plate, and the Assembled SS Guide Rod (22lb.).

Installation was fairly easy for me and should be for most that are competent and can follow directions. Do NOT be worried about breaking anything, be more worried about springs flying.. LOL.. The only tools really needed are a 1/16" and 1/8" pin punches, a NON-MARRING hammer, some cleaner (Alcohol) and lube (White Lithium Grease).

After installation I shot a mag through it and I DID notice a difference in trigger pull AND with the SS guide Rod/22lb. spring, the recoil was a bit tamer! I would have liked to go with 1 company for everything but sometimes that is not an option! I would LOVE to try out the spring kit from Apex for comparison but my $ does not allow for much more spending, especially now that I already have a spring kit installed. :(

I also did a few "cosmetic" modifications to my gun. I polished the ramp to help out with 1/2 feed issues. While I was at the polishing wheel, I polished a few more things including trigger bar and sear contacts as well as sides of sear to reduce friction. The SS Guide Rod was also polished as well as the little screw on the end. For my pleasure, I polished the complete barrel excluding the part where the Guide Rod/spring and catch reside and my magazine has been polished.

I hope you guys have found this information helpful and if there are ANY questions, feel free to ask/comment. The people from Apex and Galloway are VERY helpful and their support and products are greatly appreciated! The SD40VE shoots MUCH better now with the parts and modifications that were performed!

That barrel looks fkn awesome!!!! How did you get it like that?

I have industrial grade polishing compounds. Works quite well! Look at the thread I just made HERE. It may look smudged or pitted in a few pics but that is from the flash and I added a few drops of water for effect

Congratulations... Your slightly famous now. When i was reading the paperwork sent with the magazine extension and trigger kit from Apex... Scott made mention of the problem you had with your trigger and directed everybody to check it out and follow your steps if they found the same problem.

Scott mentioned something to me when we were on the phone. He stated that they have not been able to make a video or write-up about it yet so he would just direct them to my post.

Awesome that he has actually followed through with it. I may be making a video of the procedure next. Time will tell.

Thanks for letting me know about this. Maybe you can snap a pic of this paperwork you speak of so I can see what all is said. ;)
