Friday I put a used but like new SD40VE two tone with 2-14 round mags on layaway. I picked it up for $315 out the door. Did I get a pair price? Sorry no pictures. The bore looks to be in good condition other than a very slight rust on the bore which I suspect I should be able to clean up using a wire bore brush. Doesn't look like it's been shot much and outside appearance is like new. Sorry but I didn't take no pictures of it.

I think the deal you made on your (ULN. SD40ve) was about average depending on your circumstances involved.

As far as the rust, it may only be copper fouling! Whoever bought it new and shot it may not have cleaned it afterwards.
A good soaking of the bore with a copper solvent and a scrubbing with a SS bore brush should clean it up nicely.

I think you will love the piece after you've shot it a few times. I have put over 1,200 rds through mine and it is just now broke-in.

Tim:
Enjoy your new piece.

I'd cancel the layaway and negotiate the price down. That's very close to
what a new SDVE's are going for--even higher than what Academy has put them on sale for.

I don't know how S&W applies warranty service to second-hand owner vs original owner status. That might matter too.

Agreed that Academy is a good place to buy if local; Bud's is awesome, too. That price for used is too much. Walk away or get a better price. What is better? In my house, 2/3 of new.

I have the feeling OP has already taken possession of the SD40. from his remarks that he has not taken pictures, etc. In which case it is probably too late to take it back depending on the retailer!

Some of use cannot wait to acquire a new toy, myself included.

Welcome aboard OP.

For the price in Illinois, you paid fair, going price, by Chicago rules. Other places where they have the liberty of owning weapons that tells the liberals to F-off, you'd get a better price. Also, some stores can't get the guns everyone wants to sell used, so it's a hit/miss on what they have at time of sale.

Don't worry, that SD40VE will treat you good. Now go and have a great 4th of July.

I have not taken possession of the gun, and I have only put $15 down on it. I believe from what little research I've done, the gun in my neck of the woods, new, sells for about $350-$375 before tax. Also you have to keep in mind that I do not have the luxury to pay $300 at one time. The benefit of where i am getting the gun from, is that I've bought quite a few guns from them, so they let me do layaways on my term, meaning put down how much I want, pay how much I want a month, plus keep in it layaway for however long I want. Also keep in mind that the price I paid is after tax, it was $295 before tax. Also keep in mind that if I were to buy online, you then have to pay a FFL transfer, which around here costs $25-$35.

In that case, I think you did very well. You do what appease's YOU! All of these replies you see about buying new involves call in, taxes, and the possibility of shipping and an FFL, if you were to go through a dealer.
About the warranty, I bought my SD9VE from my son. He didn't like it and wanted an M&P. I had to send it back to S&W for some work on it and they never said a thing about me being the 2nd owner, even when I told them I had bought it from my son. ;)

Personally I'm ok with the deal I got. I was just wondering if others thought the deal was fair or not. As far as Academy having it for pretty much the same price, have no affect on me considering they don't sell online and I have no store near me. Even if I found a store near me that had a new one for the same price, I know I wouldn't be able to put it on layaway and pay how much when I want for however long I want. The only other place near me that sells guns and do layaways more than 30 days is another pawn shop and they are strictly 20% down and 90 days only. So even if I did pay more than online price, I have the luxury of paying when I want how much I want for how long I want. Plus its from a local small business instead of a corporate business, and I'd much rather support small local businesses then some corporate owned business.

I see you are an early riser same as me!

As I said in my first reply to your post, I think the deal you struck with the selling agent was average and I don't think you paid more for the gun than you should. Everyone seems to think they are more or less the deciding factor in how and how much you need to pay for a used, verses a new gun!

Let that baby sit, pay it off and take it home, clean it and enjoy your new found piece. (They shoot very well.) I shoot mine at the Belleville Shooting Range and enjoy mine very much.

Thanks Marty, and it's not that I'm an early riser, its I haven't been to bed yet. I hope to have the gun out in the next 4-5 months. (I have 4 other guns on layaway and am limited on funds as I'm on disability and live off of a measly low income check every month. There's no telling I'll even make it to a range this year with the gun, however once I get it out, I'm looking forward to shooting it. The price I paid was actually a discounted price, as the pawn shop had it advertised for $329 before tax.

Perfect price

You got a fairly decent gun for a fair price on your terms..........
I'd call that a good deal. Enjoy it.

FWIW, I just paid nearly $80 over the going price for a TALO 686 3-5-7 5"barrel, because I bought it online on layaway and paid shipping etc for a long term, but comfortable layaway. I couldn't have afforded the gun otherwise at the time.

I bought my SD40VE new 2 1/2 years ago, and I spent either $352 or $354 after taxes. Definitely better deals to be had now, but I still love my SD. Do I want other pistols? Yep! Do I want to get rid of my SD? Nope! I carry it almost daily...

Michigan price

I paid $245.00 for my used SD40VE back in February. Mine is a 9 out of 10 with 10 being new. Great gun. I like shooting it, but not as much as my M&P 40. :D

Congratulations on getting the sw40ve. If you choose to, you can make it a sweet shooter with a few parts and some polishing in the right places. :-)

The only negative comment I have on the SD40ve is the plastic rear sight! Even with that, I find it is easily adjustable. You can move it with a small piece of wood or plastic and a light tap!
