After seeing a magazine write up about the new taurus pt 111 I decided to check a forum about taurus's. It really opened my eyes about their customer service but several posters stated the S&W SD9 was a discontinued model. The SD was a consideration having previously owned a Sw 9 I regret selling. I currently own a M&P 40 compact but am looking for 9mm for carry. Any suggestions.

The Taurus PT111 G2 is not a bad gun, but their customer service is why I will never own one, or any other Taurus for that matter. I have had several in the past, but never again.

If you were interested in the SD9, the next iteration (and a better one) is the SD9VE. It's an inexpensive, very reliable gun and backed by S&W's excellent customer service. It usually retails for about $320, and you can often find them on sale for under $300.

The SD9 was the original version, all black with a front night sight.

The SD9VE (Value Edition) deleted the slide finish and the night sight, and the rear sight is also slightly different. They are otherwise identical.

I believe S&W dropped the SD9 when they brough out the SD9VE.

I have three of these, two SD9s and one SD9VE and believe them to be the best handgun value out there.

I'd love to swap you my 9VE slide for a SD9 melonite one if you were up for blindly trading firearm parts with a random guy on a message board who may or may not have mental issues.

I love my SD 9. Glad I got it when I did. Slide is a little tough to pull back in the beginning but after 1000 rounds it broke in nicely.

Avoid Taurus. Customer Service will see your gun often, sometimes for the same thing two or three times. My shooting buddy has found that out.

Not to say Smith & Wesson doesn't have problems but they know how to take care of their customers.

I guess others answered your question about the SD9 now the SD9ve great pistol. Just wondering if you have a M&P40c why do you want a bigger 9mm to carry ?
My wife has the M&P9c & I would much rather carry it than my SD9ve.
I like thinner for carry myself so most of the time I carry my LCP 380.
I have looked at the LC9 & even shot one they are hard to control.
