I saw an older SD9 for sale and was trying to remember any changes that were made to the gun when it became the VE model. The old one has a blued slide, not stainless. What are the other changes, if any?

Sights, finish and trigger pull. I've only seen 1 SD9 in my area and it was still NIB at a Sale Price of $450.00. Was a nice looking gun and I would prefer the black finish slide to the SS slide on my SD9VE.
Since I only paid $299 for my SD9VE, I'm very happy with it. The trigger has smoothed out very well, is accurate and reliable. Has turned into my most used EDC. I'd still pick up an SD9 if I could find one at a reasonable price, though

The original SD9 had a Trijicon night sight for the front, and a steel rear sight with the two white dots. And as mentioned the slide/barrel had the Melonite coating. Replace the Trijicon front sight with a regular steel white dot, replace the rear sight with a polymer two dot, and leave the slide/barrel in plain stainless, then you have our beloved SD/VE series. Not sure about any differences with the trigger though...

Heck, I learned something here. I thought the only real difference in the two models, was that one came before the other did...as far as production times.

I have the SD9, I think the reason they went to the VE (value enhanced) was so that the SD wouldn't compete with the MP as much and be able to reduce the MSRP so they could sell more by creating a bigger difference in price. If the SD was higher priced why buy one when you can get the MP for just a few bucks more.
With that said, I bought my SD9 used....they claimed never fired but it certainly had some rounds passed through it.

As I recall, one of our LGS's had SD9's packaged up in some sort of "home defense" kit towards the end of it's production run. I believe they were looking for creative ways to market them, as I don't think they were selling well. The M&P's were the high line, the Sigmas were the affordable guns and the SD's were caught in the middle.

I went to Bass in OKC today and they didn't have any SD_VE's in stock. I am happy with my SD9VE CA and the only additional gun I want (house payments override) would be a 1911 in 9mm or .22. I had unlimited weekend use of a 1911 in .22 cal when in the NROTC, unlimited free ammo, and [at that time] lots of space in Oklahoma to plink, shoot down mistletoe, whatever. We used Hi-Standards on the pistol team, forgot what we had on the rifle team, but the 1911 weekends often took priority over study. [I did graduate, however]
