SD9VE 16 round mag question please help if you know.

I remember my SD9VE being like that when I first bought it. The magazines are really stiff on that last round. They'll loosen up.

I always leave a magazine one short of its advertised capacity -- something I picked up years ago when they told us to put 18 in a 20 round M16 magazine to make it work better.

Initially it can be hard to get the last round in because the (new) spring is pretty stiff. But loaded to full capacity usually makes the top round push up on the slide, and as a result the magazine may be pushed down and not be seated fully.

If I had extra 10 round mags, I think I'd put them on the "for sale" listing under "classifieds" on the forum and sell them off to someone from a restricted state, and use the extra bucks to buy another 16 round magazine!

Lol man I feel like I should retract my I'm not retarded statement lol great idea man. Ty! And ty for your service to the nation.

Nice. So you didnt shoot 50 rounds?

I mean not for the class. I took advantage of a great range though lol couldn't look at and walk away! The requirements for passing the shooting portion were only one accurate shot center mass from 7 yards lol so that was one quick shot n pass then after he let some of who wanted to use the range stay n run some rounds I didn't stay to long because the class was four hours long kinda was getting to close to dinner time lol so I ran my two 16s plus one. I think they said fifty rounds to make it where anyone can get it lol long as you got the money.

They already are starting to. Now I get to feel like a big boy n load without a table lol. Still pretty stiff but Its getting better. Guess I'd rather it be stiff that not work lol

My CCW instructor had us load 5 rounds only. But, we had to reload 5 times for his course.

Hmmmm literally mine was just a four class of talking about reasons to shoot n fact when you ccw there is atleast one gun n the chance for a gf is there because you are. No paper test of any kind then he watched us load of mag and chamber a round then fire one accurate shot center mass from 7 yards. Thats it. Kinda scary how easy it is to get.

I have had my SD9ve along time & still don't like the way the mag inserts or the way it racks with 16 in, so I have always loaded 15.

That's the part that bothers me. Loading I can now load to capacity with just my fingers, but seems like the internal pressure would push rear of slide up. Which makes the bullet being loaded hit lower before it chambers. Just looks like more wear. I mean it shoots fine. My initial concern was safety. Then guys wanted to pic on terminology even though I clearly used proper before I made a single mistake so I guess asking safety concerning questions on a gun forum is absurd lol it's more important what words they use. I keep one 16 at capacity and one at 15. I keep the 15 in my gun and full as back up mag. I think I'm going to rotate that around once a week or so so they both have a chance to relax a little more.

Easy there baby moose, we like to have fun around here. So, you better grow some thick skin and/or, give it back twice as hard. :D
I have always kept my magazines filled to full capacity without any problems at all. The ONLY magazines that I have had problems with were my 5906 mags. They were LE trade in mags that were a bit wore out. New springs were $10 total (2) and they are good for another 20+ years. ;)

Yes please feel free to get offended because I pointed out facts without so much as one insult of any kind. Remaining on topic I believe I read in the rules. Anyway my skin is actually quite thick. I don't get butt hurt. It's the internet. Ty all for your advice some were quite helpful.

I do wonder does this site give notifications when you receive a reply? I don't get any literally gotta go find posts I've posted on and see manually and y'all seem to reply pretty fast. Am I missing something? A box I should have clicked or something? Forum set up is different than others I've used.

Wow..CCW in Tec-a-sauce is classroom, paper test, then out to the range and 50 rounds...20 at 3 yds....20 at 7 yds...10 at 15 yds.

And you CAN fail that although if you cant pass the shooting part you dont need to be handling a gun much less shooting:D

SWMBO and I both had perfect scores, she had been shooting for all of 3 months.

Nastyness....some here troll for fun but the clip/mag argument is classic....like the Chevy/Ford or Petroleum/Synthetic or any other age old argument.

I prefer clipazines. Keeps both sides happy :D

Hat tip to D1 for info, also go to your profile>subscriptions and at the bottom you can set your notifications as a default. ;)

I think my SD9ve is going on 6 years old with thousands of rounds fired. I got it just before the buying panic set in full force. At that time magazine clips were impossible to find, I was new to this type of pistol & did not know how long it would take for the mag springs to get weak ( I have some old 1911 mags with weak springs ) that combined with the way the mag inserts & the ruffness I felt racking it with 16, that & my thinking that if 15&1 does not get it done is one more bullet really going to matter ?
Now at the range I will load 16 but I put the clip in with the slide locked back.
The back & forth here can be fun & informative. Some do take things a little too serous. like the first time I got extract & eject mixed up.
:)

As others have said, I just load 15 because I don't like how difficult it is to seat the mag in the gun with 16 in it and how much pressure it puts against the slide.
At the range, 15 or 16 doesn't matter one bit, and in a defensive situation, if I have to change mags I don't want to depend on having to slam or jamb the mag in to ensure it stays in.
I would still purchase an SD9ve if it came with 15 round mags instead of 16 round mags, so my SD has 15 round mags and they are easy to insert with 5 rounds or 15 rounds, as they should be.

As to going to the range with mags pre-loaded, some places let you, some do not. All the instructors I know in TX have you bring ammo in a tray, and only load at the time for each step of the test. Three reasons.

1) When you have fired the prescribed number of rounds, you have an empty gun, easier for the student to know to stop shooting, and for instructor to check clear between target distance changes.

2) The instructor can see the ammo, know how much you have, and that it is an allowed type.

3) Loading the mags ( with or without a loader) shows you know how to do it.

I generally go to the range with mags loaded in a separate carrier, but I can only get by with that because the range owner and staff know I'm not sneaking in prohibited rounds (steel case, unjacketed lead, steel core, etc). But then my range charges by the day, so no one is pressured to do the loading early..

To OP Silence-

The 10 round question .

1. Is there any writing on the right side of the frame?
2. Is there a black "LOADED WHEN UP" indicator on top of the slide?
