A couple comments before I head to the gun show
I have hitched a few rides in the back of the C-130, back and forth to Panama and LRAFB to Eglin. It is not a comfortable ride, as the altitudes they normally run at is right down in the weather. The C-5 is much better.
We flew the guys of the "Electric Strawberry" a lot in 1969. More night extractions than I care to remember. When that many tracers and air dropped flares light up the night skys (like on the cover of that book) you know you are flying into the jaws of hell. It's not the red tracers you worry about. It's the BIG green ones from the 12.7mm's coming your way that do bad things to a helicopter.
Today I wear a t-shirt with a likeness of the statute of the grunts by the Viet Nam War Memorial to honor those grunts. 25th ID, 9th ID, 199th ID Light, 5th SFG, and the ARVN's. God bless you all.
