Shield 40 Mishap

Ok guys, I have an update.... first off, just got a return call from S&W, spoke with a Joe N., he works under Kate. Gave him the details to which he responded as I expected. He really could not speak with me about James case. We spoke for a few minutes about the big picture, hopefully James will be hearing from someone there soon.

As for our collections, I am at $310 committed of which I have received around 1\2 of it. So if we could get moving on getting money in PP or check I would appreciate it. We also need a few more guys, so if you would like to help a brother out... by all means, we need some help. I like how one member put it... he was happy to have the opportunity " to pay it forward", one never knows when they may need some help. So please, if you can, help a brother out.

Thank you very much,

Ok, another update, received a few donations yesterday. Thanks much William and Casey!!

We still need a few more donations, so please pm or let me know if you can help a brother out....

thanks much,

I'll have an update tonite.... we look to be there as far as commitments, I needed to get a few envelope from work with checks in them.... and tally up... !!!

BOO-YAH!!!!

Smith and Wesson Forum (cool place) insurance, don't leave home with out it!

I have to apologize.. I left the MO and Ch names at my shop... I was in such a rush to get out... so I'll bring my list with me tomorrow morning and finish up the tally.. it really looks like I have received enough committed and most are paid... just need to make the pd match the list. There is a name or 2 I'm not sure of.. but I should be able to figure it out by a process of deduction. Worst case is I need 1 more participant to meet the cost directly from S&W. I am also waiting on 2001 connecting with Kate to firm up an eta for his replacement... I will deliver a check or money directly to S&W since I live 10 minutes from them... talk to you all in the AM...

Ok, it's a new day, still at home, but working the list some more, looks like we have it covered with the last donation I was offered. Just need to get the last 2 slots in hand.. I'll still be giving the final update when I get to my shop... double check the MO and check I have there.

Thanks again guys for your generosity, love the insurance policy!!

Just read through the majority of this thread.

I am very disappointed with Smith and Wesson and Federal.

6-7 Weeks waiting on SW to have a verdict and getting the run around.

Then Federal saying, ammo is fine and within spec, upon further review they are reloads.

And who knows if that is the truth. I have been wanting to buy a single stack 40 for CCW. This whole process the OP went through has really turned me off the Shield and has made me lean more towards buying the Walther PPS. I wonder how much SW would be involved in a Customer Service standpoint.

All in all, I wish HK made a single stack subcombact and my decision would be easy. I have fired thousands of rounds from my HK's and have had not one issue, not even a FTE. Using everything from Hertzer's Teflon rounds to +P Hornady.

To the OP, sorry on your misfortune. I know it was awhile ago, but at least you were not seriously hurt.

I have had problem with Federals, they replaced the ammo in question but no explanation, and replacemnet had the same issue. So I'm leaning in that direction. JMHO

Only 1 S&W experience and it was satisfied.

Past performance is no guarantee of future gains.

Just a short time spent on this forum will yield hundreds of people with experiences similar to yours, but with the Shield instead of the HK. You could go buy a new HK tomorrow and it might malfunction on the first round. You just never know. I have a 1911 that has thousands of rounds through it without an issue. The same could be said about several guns I've had. I also had a 1911 that had issues. These things happen sometimes.

To say that a particular company has a bad product based on one example is poor judgement.

My issue is not so much that the shield blew up. It is how SW handled it. Just on the first page of this section, there are two poor customer service stories.

My HK comments were more just a wish comment, that I wish they made a single stack sub compact.

I

So, let me come at this with different phraseology.

How many times have you used HK's customer service? If they did make a single stack sub compact, why would their customer service be any better than this one?

I agree that 2001gmc has received poor service with this problem. Not the worst I've seen, but it certainly could be better. I've already state that I believe the response from Federal to be a flat out lie. I believe they are hoping that 2001gmc won't attempt to prove them wrong and I'm sure he won't so, they'll get away with this particular falsehood. Shame on them. Still, this is one case out of thousands. Every now and then someone is going to receive poor service, that's life. What I take issue with, and always will, is the idea that because of this one issue, everyone will receive poor service. Further, I contest the notion that because a person has had good service out of one product that means every product, including customer service, will be good.
