As a former volunteer EMT with 26 years experience, I can't to this day understand why someone with any intelligence would allow the muzzle of their own pistol to be pointed at their own privates and/or one of the five (5) major arteries in the human body, especially if they know and UNDERSTAND the four basic rules of firearm safety!
1. Treat all firearms as if they are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
4. Be sure of your target and what is behind it.
I've heard people say it's faster, easier to re-holster, etc...but if your situational awareness (aka, brain) is functioning correctly, you'll see and assess potential danger before it gets so close that you have to be 'fast'!
Be smart, pay attention to your surrounds, assess and identify risk, take appropriate measures to egress, seek shelter, or defend yourself before it becomes a 'surprise'.
Strong-hand, OWB, 4:00 position for me...that way I can protect my pistol (aka, furtherest distance from aggressor) when I blade someone for safety.
