Shield 9mm with Safety or not?

I bought mine without the safety....while it may be true that with it you have the option of using it or not but without it you don't have to worry about it "accidentally" being on when you don't want it on. I carry at 4:00 on my right with an IWB Kydex holster so I don't worry about accidental trigger pull since the holster is rigid. I also know not to put my finger on the trigger unless I'm ready to shoot. Training is a beautiful thing.

Good thing is the safety is such a low profile. Its almost impossible to accidentally turn it on. And probably even more impossible to accidentally turn it off. So the chances are very slim.

Of all these years carrying mine 12+ hours a day, 6 days a week. And during all the training. I've never once had it accidentally turn off on on. Then again, ive never once had it go click when i pulled the trigger either.

Depends on where you live in Cali regulation's shift back and forth my youngest has a fnp9 pretty sure was the last one the northern part the state doesn't have a safety the next version hit the books did

When I first got into shooting I believed that all pistols needed a thumb safety. I now realize they are not necessary and my M&Ps do not have them.

If you are considering the safety version the first thing to do is shoot and handle the gun with the safety to verify the ergonomics work with your hands. I have handled a number of firearms with awkward safeties and they automatically go in the "do not buy" category. Include weak-hand only manipulation in your testing. You need to be able to work the safety weak-hand in training, practice, and maybe real life.

If you prefer having a safety and it satisfies your handling tests, then get the safety version. Then train to the point where you have a 99.999% guarantee of removing the safety. If you are not willing to put in that practice, then you shouldn't have gotten the safety version. If you do put in that practice, then there is no reason not to carry with the safety on.

I was told by the gun shop that all the new Performance Shields come with a Safety due to the lighter pound triger pull of 4lbs? anyone know if this is true?

S&W's website only lists thumb safety PC Shields, but I have zero idea why they made that choice. Hopefully they'll release NTS versions soon.

No safety on my Shield, I don't want anything to complicate my actions if I need my handgun.

My wife got a safety model, of her choosing.

The first thing she says at the range is, "where's the safety?"

I have a safety on my Shield and I appreciate having it. I like the little extra security of being able to engage the safety when I'm handling the gun. However, I do not carry it with the safety engaged. When it goes into the holster the safety is off and remains that way.

The Shield's safety lever is small and flat which makes it carry/conceal easier, but I wouldn't want to have to thumb it off in an adrenalin filled moment. However, that configuration, along with the fact that it engages pretty firmly, gives me confidence that nothing is going to engage it inadvertently while it is in the holster.

I got mine with a safety. I am confident in my ability to work a lever and do practice it every time I am at the range so it is natural. However, if they had the with/without internal lock like some of the revolvers I certainly would have gone no lock.

I Carry a 9mm Shield daily 1st production safety model, Safety Off. Not needed. Have a 45c no safety model.

I bought the NTS. I prefer as few moving parts in/on a carry gun as possible.

All of my guns have safeties including the shield. It is what I'm comfortable with. Like what was said before, you need to try one with and without first of all to see how well you operate them.

I don't like safety.
I tried firing mine in the dark, it was a no go and couldn't find safety fast. This is problem because my shield is my only gun with a safety, I have 4 others with no safety I carry.

People say practice but in the heat of the moment it could kill you. On the other hand the bad guy get your gun it could save your life,

One of the reasons my EDC is a DAO J-frame is simplicity. In extremis, draw and press the trigger.

Of course, that's a about a ten-pound squeeze, which does make a difference. But I think in the unlikely event I went back to carrying an autoloader, if it had a safety I wouldn't use it.
