Shield Availability

My LGS just called me and said they have a used 9mm Shield that just came in. They asked if I wanted it since I was on a waiting list, I then asked what price difference there was, they said $100 off and I said I'll be there tomorrow. :)

According to the guy on the phone, it was barely shot and is in perfect condition with original box and both mags. Since S&W has a lifetime guarantee, saving $100 on it and not having to wait any longer sounded pretty good to me.

I'd say a rarity to say the least, this early in the game. Good Score!

It's not nice to tease Nakan!! 9mm are impossible to find out here.

When I saw the number pop up on my phone I thought it was for a new Shield. When he told me he had a used one I actually wasn't too excited since I didn't know the condition, price or why the guy traded it in. Once I knew all of the info, I was more than happy to take the used Shield and save some money in the process.

Hey, I had too. I do get lucky some times ,but it's far and few between. ;) Once someone believes the new XDs is the newest and greatest over their Shield, they'll start popping up in the used section.

Will all of you knuckeheads quit calling it 40mm. That is the caliber of the Army's grenade launcher. It is about an inch and half in diameter. .40 S&W is the correct designation.

Thanks, this post made me literally laugh out loud. I'm still waiting for a recoil comparison update :p

40MM Shield would SHUT THOSE 9MM BOYS UP THOUGH, along with ending a 9MM/45 debate or two.

You think the Glock has a BLOCKY Grip, a 40MM Shield would be for two hand grip only I suppose.

I like it, imagine doing DOUBLE TAPS.

Knuckehead, I called it a 40 not a 40mm.

Also, what is a knuckehead?

It is so funny that you are calling people Knuckeheads.:)

But, I am still thinking about getting me a 40mm. :p

The list price on Shields is $449. What's the problem?

If you want one, that's a bargain. Some places - particularly on Gunbroker - are getting north of $500 and $600.

Usually the prices in the store are lower than the manufactured suggested retail price. This has been a normal thing for awhile, but with companies pumping out guns year after year, all these new models like the XDs, SR1911, Kimber Solo, Shield, multiple Kel-Tec models, etc are going for way more than they should simply because of availability. I bought my SR1911 for $650 and have seen them go for $800+, but I sure wouldn't buy one now for $700 just because they are harder to find.

The price of $450 isn't bad, but once the dust settles, you'll find them all over for $400 or less.

I have been in a waiting in list in the metro detroit area for about a month and the store I'm dealing with doesnt know when they are coming in. Does anyone know how Smith determines who gets shippments or how they ship to dealers.

M&P Shield 9mm Availability

It is now September 7, 2012 and I still cannot find a 9mm Shield in stock. I am going to a gun show in Charleston, SC tomorrow and maybe I will get lucky there. I am not interested in paying more than MSRP and if I get one online, I would like to see free shipping. Price notwithstanding, I cannot find the gun in stock. :(

Same here in my area. LGS cannot even promise a delivery time if you put money down on one! I'm about to the point of, I don't care anymore!!!

Sorry, not buying it. If you really didn't care, you would not post how frustrated you are not being able to buy a Shield.

I feel very fortunate that I was able to locate and purchase a Shield (9MM) after they had become so popular and the waiting lists had become quite long. My own fault, should not have hesitated when a LGS had some (at MSRP) in stock. I paid slightly less than MSRP when I did buy it, but the extra gas to go get it made it a wash.

When you do get one, I believe you will agree it was worth the wait.

As I've said before...availability and purchasing is all about luck. I went to my LGS to pick up ammo. As the cashier rang me up, I asked on whim if they had any 9mm Shields in stock (knowing they wouldn't...whew...I won't have to buy it then). She came back with a blue box. She said they got a shipment in the night before and this is the last one. "Would you like to buy it?" she asked. Ummm...yes!

As I filled out the paperwork, another gun clerk asked if I was buying it (he had another person wanting to buy it)...my timing couldn't have been better.

Moral of the story (unless you live in FL where they seem to grow on trees next to the oranges): you better be lucky in the midwest (I'm in OH) if you are going to get your hands on a Shield 9mm.

Good luck...it's worth the wait! Price may even drop given the law of supply and demand.

There are no Shields (9mm) in central Iowa. I've been on two lists for 3 months. I talked with a LGS owner and he said there were over 75 people on his list.

Still waiting for our first batch of Shields to hit the stores here in MA. On a waiting list at LGS. Supposed to get them in at the end of Sept. or early Oct.
