PC Shield advantages?
Porting and follow-up shots? Sure, it helps to make follow up shots a little quicker, if your grip allows the gun to jump away from your sight picture. Shooting 9mm 115 grn defensive ammo with a proper two-handed grip, I don't get much muzzle jump.
Flash from the ports? Most modern loadings now use low flash powder, especially defensive (vs target) loads. The flash is much less than most people think, and usually a non-issue for almost any lighted shooting.
Lighter slide? Sure. Unneeded.
Noise? Yep. You get more directed to the sides and back.
Dirt? Yep. More dirt around the ports and probably up on the front sight tube, but not in quantities that really degrade anything, and it's pretty easy to clean.
Looks? OK, some think holes in slides look cool.
Retention shooting? Absolutely ports will cause problems. This reason alone makes them unsuitable for me on a defensive, close range, small pistol that doesn't really need them anyway.
Now if you go to a .357 Sig or .40 S&W the benefits may be greater, but so will the liabilities on a small pistol.
The ports on my 6" .44 mag are excellent and help the revolver shoot much easier. The ports on my .300 Win Mag reduce recoil and muzzle jump. Well worth it. But these are not hideout, defensive firearms.
Light tube sights bring a host of problems and complexity to only a little advantage. I don't see the need for them on a defensive gun, and actually find them to be a liability. They are bigger and more fragile than standard sights.
Improved trigger? Always welcome, but this PC version is just polishing components for a smoother, lighter pull with a lighter return spring. I don't believe the trigger geometry is changed as with Apex parts. Four pounds is getting a little on the light side for a defensive pistol, IMO.
According to what I've read, the PC only comes with a safety. I don't want a mechanical safety beyond the the ones already built into the striker system.
So for me, the whole concept of the PC Shield as executed has nothing that attracts me.
