Who's got one? Looking for what you think, is it worth the extra $? Currently have the .40 Shield and wondering how much difference the porting really makes?

Dont like it..like my regular shield better..we have them here over 400 dollars..dont see the point for a defense gun

I like mine. Muzzle rise is less than my M&P 40C. Trigger is light enough with positive reset. Sights are nice when there is light available, obviously they are just like any other non self illuminating sight in the dark. There is a different sound when firing vs the non-ported 40C. Muzzle flash is a non-issue when firing in a darkened room. The flame coming from the ports using Federal 165gr HST is a soft glow of yellow-red.

KO

I received mine 2 weeks ago, and like it. The ported barrel allows you to instantly get back on target with the improved reset. It is a little louder beside and rear of the gun from the ports, but the flash from them did not cause any problem with normal light, or near dark. Did not try it in total darkness. Would of loved if it would of came with the night sights, rather than the fiber optic ones.

Really like mine, less muzzle rise and nice smooth trigger.Did not like the sights, had them changed to a set of speed sights night sights,,much better.

I just got mine yesterday, it is my first Shield I have had trouble with Sig 938s and reliability so I got this. I seem to like PC products better, whether its my imagination or not ,my 625,640 seem to have nice triggers that feel like ice. I expect a better than stock on the Shield , Can someone pipe in and tell me if 9mm barrels and 357 barrels are available for the .40 Shield? in this application they do not need to be ported. Thanks

I have a .40 Ported Shield on order expecting it soon, however my local gun shop just got it 3 .40 Shields 2 for 389.00 and one is priced at 449.00? It has a "Snake type Finish" on the body and grip, they were trying to sell me one of these instead of the Performance Ported Shield, pointing out that the flash is blinding for CPL carry and if you were to hold it close to you in a defense situation it will burn you and your cloths? Any thoughts should I wait for the Ported Performance .40 Shield will it b a practical CPL Carry?? Thanks

They got a buyer for your gun.... cause the guy is talking out the side of his mouth..

PC Shield advantages?

Porting and follow-up shots? Sure, it helps to make follow up shots a little quicker, if your grip allows the gun to jump away from your sight picture. Shooting 9mm 115 grn defensive ammo with a proper two-handed grip, I don't get much muzzle jump.

Flash from the ports? Most modern loadings now use low flash powder, especially defensive (vs target) loads. The flash is much less than most people think, and usually a non-issue for almost any lighted shooting.

Lighter slide? Sure. Unneeded.

Noise? Yep. You get more directed to the sides and back.

Dirt? Yep. More dirt around the ports and probably up on the front sight tube, but not in quantities that really degrade anything, and it's pretty easy to clean.

Looks? OK, some think holes in slides look cool.

Retention shooting? Absolutely ports will cause problems. This reason alone makes them unsuitable for me on a defensive, close range, small pistol that doesn't really need them anyway.

Now if you go to a .357 Sig or .40 S&W the benefits may be greater, but so will the liabilities on a small pistol.

The ports on my 6" .44 mag are excellent and help the revolver shoot much easier. The ports on my .300 Win Mag reduce recoil and muzzle jump. Well worth it. But these are not hideout, defensive firearms.

Light tube sights bring a host of problems and complexity to only a little advantage. I don't see the need for them on a defensive gun, and actually find them to be a liability. They are bigger and more fragile than standard sights.

Improved trigger? Always welcome, but this PC version is just polishing components for a smoother, lighter pull with a lighter return spring. I don't believe the trigger geometry is changed as with Apex parts. Four pounds is getting a little on the light side for a defensive pistol, IMO.

According to what I've read, the PC only comes with a safety. I don't want a mechanical safety beyond the the ones already built into the striker system.

So for me, the whole concept of the PC Shield as executed has nothing that attracts me.

Heck... I didn't know that the PC sights were simply Fiber optics and not 'real' night sights.
There are threads in this Sub-Forum where people have written that the PC trigger was not as good as sn Apex trigger. Personally, I think the Factory trigger is plenty good enough. :)

Add that to a 9mm subcompact not NEEDING to be ported (put me in the category that doesn't like ported CC pistols) and it seems that one would still be better off buying a regular Shield and adding the sights they want.

I was dead set on getting one. A LGS finally got one and I took a look. I didn't like the sights as much as I thought I would. The trigger was better than our regular shield but the difference wasn't as big as between a regular M&P and my Pro Series. My plan was to get a 9mm since that's what I carry now unless I'm using my G42, and with our regular shield I didn't feel the "need" for porting in 9mm and would simply be a bonus. I think it'd be very helpful in .40 having shot a .40 shield before.
So for me, it wasn't worth the extra $110 the LGS wanted over a standard shield (they wanted $519 for the PC version and $409 for a regular, gun prices SUCK around here.)
If eventually the price gets closer to $50 or so over a standard shield maybe I'd pick one up, but for the price difference, just wasn't worth it to me. For the rest of the country that gets decent prices at their local stores it may be worth it. Around here everyone seems to use MSRP as a starting point. Even our local LE store sells regular shields for $399 :(

I found mine on line as the prices here are out of line also. $400 for a 9mm standard model and add 9% tax on. and 200 mile driving to get the paper work and purchase docs in order. Look I got it cause I like it, It feels good in my hand, I don't have to justify if the porting on a 40 makes sense or the sights are fragile , I like them,I bought it, I am happy. If you like it don't over think it.

So back to my first question, can I find a 9mm barrel for this anyplace? porting not needed?
