Shield Plus (10 round flush mag) in the works

I've seen some evidence that Smith is about to release a new P365-ized version of the Shield. Does anyone have any real information?

If you Google "m&p shield plus" the first item that comes up is a password protected page on Smith & Wesson | Pistols, Revolvers, and Rifles. the Google description is

I've seen this before, (albeit with 13+1 capacity) but it came from Reddit so I took it with a grain of salt.

Still, seems like the logical thing for Smith & Wesson to do, considering that the SIG P365, Springfield Armory Hellcat, and Glock G13X are all the rage right now.

Personally, I'll stick with my Performance Center M&P40 Shield 1.0, as it already holds 7+1, and I prefer .40 S&W over 9mm Luger.
 
Would be nice if the new magazines worked on existing Shields, but then you wouldn’t need to up the new gun.
 
I really hope that "10lb trigger" pull is a typo. That would be horrendous. I see a new use for my "Uncle Sugar stimulus" check...
 
Glad they have some competition, but in light of the fact that this is a new gun, add in still COVID-19 reduced production and shipping, and then add in the massive increase in gun buying lately, I predict these will be extremely hard to get, will be far higher than the MSRP, and not be readily available at fair prices for at least a year.

Remember when the original Shield came out? Big ticket item and far above MSRP. A few years later, they were $300 guns.

Maybe I'll pick one up. I like my Shield. But I'm not gonna pay the stupid price I know they're gonna ask for, just like I won't pay $250 for a brick of primers.

I'm not obsessed. I like guns and plastic ones are cheap enough for me to occasionally indulge my hobby. I don't feel under-gunned with my 7 round Shield (never carry the 8 round mag. Makes the gun bigger). Honestly, I rarely carry my Shield. I carry a 7 round Ruger LC9-S because it is smaller and lighter than the Shield. But if S&W made a gun the same size as my LC9-S,(which the 365 is), with 10 rounds, at a price point lower than the 365, then I am very interested.

As for more bullets means bigger gun, both Sig and Springfield found a way around it, which is why Smith had to or they're gonna miss out on a LOT of sales.

It's why I never added the Mag-Guts extension. For carry, I want smaller and lighter. If the Shield Plus is still bigger than the Sig 365 or Hellcat, I don't see it having much of an impact. Like it or not, the 365 and the Hellcat have eclipsed the Shield, and I said months ago that S&W better have something to compete, or they'd better drop the Shield price to what they were last year. I bought my new M&P 2.0 Compact 18 months ago for $399 brand new. Only thing keeping some from not buying the 365 now is the price.

The P365 has more capacity than the Shield, while being slightly smaller. If I can have more ammo capacity with NO DOWNSIDE, why wouldn't I go with that? Are you saying it's better to have less ammo?

Sometimes more ammo IS better - like 145 rounds.

I don’t think $499 is crazy, with the night sights, but definitely more than a Shield. Though not as big of a price gap nowadays.

Mag prices are what kill me, going from a G26 with cheap mags to $50 a pop for P365 mags was rough.

$499 is not crazy at all, and I would see them for that price before the Madness happened. But Shield's were going for $250 at the same time Sigs were $499. Yeah, night sights are a plus, but not a deal breaker. Only a few of my guns have them, but none that I currently carry. Truthfully, I only got them because I bought them used and they already had dead night sights, so $57 for Trijicon to relamp them is ok by me. Some people want to spread out the cost and add them later. a $200 difference in purchase price is a real deal for some people.
 
Looks like Ruger has beat S&W to the punch.
Ruger has released their Sig P365, Springfield Hellcat competitor, the Ruger Max-9. Looks like it will be a great competitor and they may have gotten it out just before S&W releases their version scheduled for today, the Shield Plus.

Maybe my wants and needs are different than many others.
Years ago, before all the small plastic guns became available, I thought smaller was always the answer for the "perfect carry piece. The first ones that looked attractive, the Kahr plastics, seemed to suffer from reliability issues. Once they were worked out, a number of small pocket size guns had also arrived so I went to my local gun shop and had another look.
What I found is that the Rugers, Kahrs and other small stuff actually were too small for me to shoot comfortably and I suspect accuracy.
After the initial Shields came out and the rush and prices came back to earth, I looked at them too. They happened to be the perfect balance between size for concealment, hand fit, and a reasonable capacity. After shooting my new purchase, I found that it shot extremely accurately at reasonable self defense range too (even though mine was a 1.0).
When the Glock 42 & 43 arrived I wasn't really tempted to rush out to see them. Then the Sig raised the game. I still haven't even held either in my hand and still wonder why I would need one. I've since found my ideal front contrast sight, holster setup, Hogue grip sleeve, the Magguts 10 round setup, and a great deal on a dozen 8 round mags about a year and a half ago, just before the great panic. Now I haven't even felt the need for the 2.0, even though that would probably be on my next want list.

Ruger has $499 MSRP, so street price SHOULD be less. I’m eager to check it out and I really like my LC9S, but this new Max 9 looks too much like the Security 9, and even Ruger admits that’s a budget gun.

If the new Shield Plus is a smaller Shield with higher capacity, and the MSRP is around $499 like the Sig was before the price increase, I am seriously interested. One thing I will NOT do is pay above MSRP. I have enough guns to keep me amused without getting ripped off by my local gun dealer.
 
The Max 9 has the Security 9 styling. But It's much more closely related to the LC9s. It's a striker gun, not a concealed hammer gung like the Security 9.
