Shield Shortage

Unknown if CA will accept the view hole as a loaded chamber indicator or if an actual LCI has to be added. Now all you need is for S&W to start manufacturing them for you.
Bob
Page 15 of the Shield manual reads:
Type 2: Some M&P Shield™ model pistols are equipped with a tactile loaded chamber indicator. This indicator is present on the top of the slide. When the chamber is empty, the loaded chamber indicator will be flush with the top of the slide. When the chamber is loaded, the front of the loaded chamber indicator will protrude from the top of the slide where it can be felt above the slide's surface (FIGURE 13b).
So I'm guessing this is the style that will be sold in Cal.

Sorry to see you gave up on it for now, My neighbors buddy did the same and ended up with an lc9. The only way people are getting them around here is at the bigger stores, pre-pay and wait. I love mine, got the last one of 30 that sold in 6 hours. It really is as nice as all the hype around it.

If you think they are scarce in your area, you should see how scarce they are in MA where we have to have the special 10# trigger version ( to keep our kids safe). My buddy owns a gun shop that got a few and within hours he had calls from 200 mi away looking to put one on hold. I was fortunate enough to find one unspoken for this week and grabbed it hot off the truck.
FWIW: Not sure the Shield is a keeper for me. Doesn't do anything much better/different than my M&P9c. I'll decide after fix that trigger!!

wee hooker reply

I would agree there is not much difference between the 9c and the Shield. The biggest is the Shield is single stack and thinner, and weighs a few ounces less. The Shield is a little shorter in length and height. I would think that you find the Shield's trigger to be much better than the 9c. This should be especially obvious in the "felt" reset.

I can pocket carry my Shield. I don't think I could do that with the 9c.

I decided on the Walther PPS until the shortage lightens up.
I know there is a price difference but what a great gun..
Love the way it feels and shoots. It took me all of 5minutes to get used to the mag release. But will keep my name on the lists.

I went to the gun show Saturday in Winston-Salem, NC and found 3. 1 was from a price gouger asking $600 but the other 2 were $440. All were 9mm. Yes, I bought one for $440.

Not sure where you are but if you have a Sportsman's Warehouse in your are - check there. All of their products are shipped from warehouse in Utah and distributed by demand and sales data. My local SW got 12 Shields in last Monday, 6 in 9 and 6 in 40. I already had a 9 from their first shipment and bought a 40 this week. They wont keep a list because of the hassle.

I have a shield 9mm and was thinking about selling or trading it or a full size M&P. Maybe i should reconsider lol!

I've been on the Bud's Police wish list for months and got no notification they had any Shields. Their website shows 0 stock on 9s and 40s right now.

Yes, they were gone by 6 pm yesterday. I'm surprised they lasted that long. Probably didn't even have time to notify anyone that they were in stock. I already have a 9mm that I got from Bud's Police Supply on July 24th and they were gone in no time at all. The only reason I was able to get that one is someone on this forum posted. I think I got the last one on that occasion. I was on the wish list then too and didn't get notified.

I posted my unfired Shield up for sale on local PA firearm forums...if anyone is in PA. The Shield feels great in my hands, but I'm getting out of 9mm completely and decided to stick with 45ACP. I'm only selling it as a package deal since I want to be done with 9mm...I'm selling it with two holsters and all the ammo.

call gat guns in il .put down a deposit. in short time you will have one. they get 50 to 70 per shipment. also very good prices on them. i got mine for 419.00.
