I am looking for a primary CC and have read many comparisons on the forum comparing Shields with WaltherPPS, Kahr, etc but nary a word about the Beretta Storm. I have fired the Beretta FS and loved it as much as my M&P 9FS.
Does anyone have any experience with the Storm and how it compares to the Shield.

My brother picked up a FS Beretta storm PX4 in a 40 cal, not sure if the compact version is thinner but I believe the mag round configuration is a staggered type like my M&P 40c making it a bit wider than the sheild's mag has the rounds in line making it thinner thus arguably better for CC, but I am not an expert, just going by what I have and what I seen from my brothers storm, not sure if this helps...

PS I really like how the storm shoots but was a bit big for my smaller hands but has adjustable backstraps though.

I find the slide mounted safety/decocker on the Storm to be nearly impossible to use, so if I were to get a Storm, it would have to be the "C" action instead of the "F" action. Yes, I know you do not have to use the safety/decocker, but those slide mounted devices will go on safe sometimes when you slingshot the slide. I don't like that, so I am not interested in the F action for that reason. The D action has the horrible heavy DA pull on every shot instead of the just the first. The G action at least makes it impossible to leave the decocker in the down/safe position. The C action has the same short pull for every shot and no slide mounted "dingus"* to contend with.

*Dingus - Jeff Cooper's term for a slide mounted safety/decocker, along with his statement, "Don't get caught with your dingus down." Apt advice. :)

Any of the F models storms, which have a safety/decocker can easily be converted to G model. Decocker only.

I have a full size 9mm storm, great gun. Me and a friend have had them for about 4 years. Cant remember ever having a malfunction with it. Never heard of the safety engaging when racking the slide

I have a friend that recently purchased a PX4 Storm compact... and really likes it. I've shot it a few times and thought it shot pretty well. FWIW, he could not hit anything with the Shield but is definitely more accurate with the PX4. It's a nice gun. They are worlds apart in terms of operation of course (DA/SA) vs striker fired. It's also a little larger than the Shield (12 rounds ?) What I didn't like, is that when I used the decocker, I'm pretty sure it automatically put the safety on.. but I guess that's personal preference. I like the way the Sigs work in that regard.

Shot the Storm the other day. Nice gun but not comparable to the Shield. The Nano would be a more comparable. Storm was closer to a 9c.

I learned how to shoot using a PX4 Storm FS in 9mm. I prefer the Storm FS chambered in 40, though. I do NOT like the Storm compact -- it feels super awkward in my hands and I just don't feel comfortable with it.

I don't think the full size PX4 is comparable to the Shield. They feel completely different and they're super different guns. The PX4 full size is an awesome gun -- my friend swears by it -- but I actually prefer my M&P Pro 9mm way more (if you want to compare full size guns). :)

City of Rochester PD dumped the PX4 Storm .45 after a little more than a year. They were prone to FTFs and Beretta couldn't fix it. Don't know if that's just a .45 issue though.

As far as CC is concerned the Shield all the way...as far as a dingus on the Storm if you train with a dingus then it is no problem as lot of people gripe about a dingus out most people a too lazy to use a real safety on a real gun so they just gripe about them

Agreed with analysts except reliability. I owned a Nano and Kahr CM 9 before I purchased Shield. No way Kahr and Nano receive same score as Shield. Both are ammo sensitive.

Russ

I had an early Nano that wouldn't shoot a magazine of ammo at a time. I had several different people shoot it with the same result. I also tried various types of ammo with the same result. I returned it to the store, the salesman took it home and shot it and they gave me an in-store credit for the purchase price of the gun. There's no comparison in a Nano and a Shield especially the trigger. The Nano is a better gun than a LC-9.
