I listed a Butler Creek side folding stock on Ebay and a buyer in France selected the buy it now option. I will have to contact the buyer with shipping cost because the $15 shipping cost in the auction was based upon rates for shipping within the continental US, to France the shipping is $45+.

Aside from the shipping cost which is higher than the actual item, I am concerned about the legality of shipping a firearm part internationally. Anyone have experience or advice that you are willing to share? A quick google search didn't yeild much info...

I became worried about ITAR violations and always refused to do it. Hough France may be exempted I suppose. You would have to look it up.

Don't do it till you get approval from the dept of commerce. A friend of mine tried to send a 03 Springfield stock last fall and it was seized by U.S. customs because he didn't do the appropriate forms. He was also shipping to an Ebay winner in France.

Sounds like it will be a huge hassle. I'm just going to notify the buyer that I can't do it and relist the stock. Thanks for the info...

You need to search international shipping rates to France on the USPS site. There you will find certain shipping prohibitions that are country-specific. I did it today for a buyer in Sweden.

On ebay, you can list items for sale and specifically note that international shipping will be determined based on winning bidder's location, or simply not allow overseas bidders. In the future if you allow international bids, review the major countries where bids are most likely to come from, to make certain there are no problems with the item you are selling.

You can exclude bidders outside the US.

I've seen that on other auctions Lee, if I relist the stock I will certainly will specify US bidders only. This is the first thing I've sold on Ebay and the whole deal is going south in a hurry.

It takes a while to get the hang of it.
Once you do, it flows like water.
